Hi I'm based in Bedfordshire and looking for somewhere to refurb the alloys on my Monaro
Ideally where I can drop off the car and leave it tilldone, I would be using Lepsons as have used them before and their work is 1st class. I don't need this service as unfortunately I am preparing the car for sale as I need funds for another project.
Any recommendations for a decent localish job?

AutoWiz in Welwyn Garden City, they've done 3 cars for me. Drive in drive out service and very well priced.

Second them, used a few times and very reasonable, a littler cheaper if you drop the wheels off to them, but if you can't easily you can leave the car there.

+1 I've used them for years. Wheels properly stripped and repainted, come back good as new.

Re: BJV

I'm trying to get a wider view on this specialist as they are in a good location for me. Reviews seemed mixed at one time but well thought of on this forum. Does anyone have any reviews of recent work carried out?

Thanks

I had the diamond cut alloys on my 987 done 3 years ago by them...very poor finish and blew again within 3 months and they really needed pushing to do them again...when the did they put a chamfered edge on the face where the wheel studs go in without my permission (so there wasn't such a sharp edge and the lacquer adhered better).

I most certainly would not use them again...

Yes, just used BJV and happy with the results. I did notice once I got home that there was a small paint spot on one of the wheels, but overall they looked a hell of a lot better than anyone I'd used before. I have two sets of wheels so I can't comment on what it's like to leave the vehicle with them.

Also recommend Alloy Weldcraft in High Wycombe - they typically handle more serious damage though than just kerb damage.

I used BJV a few years ago (so not current...) multi piece 996 GT3 wheels and 20" cayenne turbo = very good work and lasted very well - excellent VFM.
Need to get the WRX STi wheels done on my better halfs Scooby - will be giving them a go in the near future.
Helps them being only about 5 miles from me

Has anyone used BJV to repair a crack?

For cracks, Alloy Weldcraft in Wycombe might be a better bet. I used them to repair a wheel that needed a spot of weld after being kerbed at 40mph and they did a good job.

I have used Pristine and Mint alloys. Would certainly go back to Mint, they did a set of BMW split alloys for me and was very pleased with the finish. Had a few issues with my set from Pristine, but to be fair it was well over 10 years ago.

I recently used Diamond Alloys in Letchworth to refurb a set of alloys. Chemically stripped, and powder coated.

Dropped car off 8am, picked up 5pm. Happy with the service and quality. (the don't don diamond cut)

Also used Pristine in Woburn Sands a few years ago. Not quite what I asked for but a quality job none the less.

I'll also give Autowiz a big thumbs up. The first refurb had just been overcoated so although one layer came off easily; the second was a pig to remove. They were working until 7pm to ensure I had my wheels back same day as promised. Finish is lasting well on the VXR8 despite the copious covering of brake dust that is regularly applied to 'em.
They were also very competitive on tyre pricing if you need it all doing in one hit.
