Info on Leighton Buzzard
Discussion
I gew up in Toddington, moved to Harlington as a 20'somethign and now live in Tebworth, all those areas are good as are the surrounding villages that others have mentioned..I guess it depends upon what you ant near you but nowhere is too short a drive...Milton Keynes is only about 12 miles away (from me) and 20 minutes up the A5 (or M1)
Have lived in the north end of Leighton since 1970. I don't go in to town much except the weekly supermarket shop - the town centre is severely lacking when it comes to any of the decent chains like Marks, etc. but then the parking would be impossible. The worse thing for me are the speed ramps - at least 30 of the damn things if you want to go from one side of the town to the other.
Also, there are continuing rumours of a massive expansion to the village of Heath and Reach - up to 4300 new houses have been mentioned - and I would think that in another 10 years it will all be part of Milton Keynes. Facilities like doctors' surgeries and dentists are already stretched beyond the limit so goodness know what it will be like then.

There are plans for massive expansion all around the outskirts of Leighton Buzzard, towards and engulfing Stanbridge/Tebworth and down to A5 eventually too.
I would imagine an out of town retail park shouldn't be far off to accommodate the expansion an alleviate the town traffic.
The number and severity of the speed bumps are certainly a pain.

Thank you for the info.
There is only 1 pub where I live and, it is not great, therefore when we happen to pop out for a drink I normally end up doing the driving.
Are the concerns with the new developments around the type of people moving in or about services, roads etc. becoming over stretched?
Although I think MK it's a very convenient town, I would like to be part of it, I've grew up in a market town (or the Italian equivalent of it) and would like to settle in one for the future.
I guess that, in the end of the day I'll have to be realistic as the pretty market town with a train station close to London, with good schools etc.. it's what everyone wants which means that it is likely to be overpriced or over budget.
Will take w look at Flitwick and pop over to Leighton again to get a better idea, thankfully I'm in no rush

We're in Toddington, moved from out of the area about 15 years ago. Very happy here, little one in a very good local school. Nice village atmosphere etc.
Both my wife and I are freelance, and work in London a few days each week, sometimes drive, sometimes train. Nearest station is Harlington...so a drive but free to park, or 10 minutes on a scary bike ride....(over the M1 bridge). Easy journey, but were not usually in rush hour. Ampthill/Flitwick/Harlington are all on a different train line to LB. Goes into St Pancras if that's a consideration, but it also runs very late and goes through Luton & Gatwick airports which is handy.

I'm concerned about the traffic and the fact they almost certainly won't build any new facilities. The seem to be allowed to build estates these days without pubs or shops - so there is absolutely no sense of community. Leighton is too expensive an area to attract many undesirables!
Really ? Leighton is cheaper than the surrounding area . And south end of leighton is plagued by travellers Gassing Station | Herts, Beds, Bucks & Cambs | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
