Anyone live near Thame?
Discussion
Apologies if this isn't the correct region, but does anyone know of The Oxfordshire Motor Company in Thame?
I've just sold my car on ebay and some guy called James called to say he would arrange for someone to pick the car up and then he would pay by bank transfer.
Sounds totally dodgy to me. But he seems to check out on companies house etc, and I just wondered if anyone on here has dealt with them?
Cheers for any help.

Sounds very dubious to me too but that is purely my own personal opinion & I could be completely wrong.
How about phone numbers etc. Did he ring from the business?
Who exactly is he getting to pick it up? Do they work for the business? If there's an accident on the way home, will you still get your money? Is it insured ?
What if he went on Companies House and found the company in question, the directors names and thought he could do something with them.
I'd get the money first, then he can have the car when the time has lapsed so that there is no chance of him/bank reversing the transaction. I know people that got badly burned in the past when transcactions were cancelled after the money was 'shown' in their account and there was nothing they could do. (May have not been via bank transfer though, possibly cheque). Question your bank about the entire
process carefully and what if you put it in your bank, it shows in your account but he then manages to cancel or similar.
OR
Ask for cash then put it in the bank, ask the bank to verify the notes are legit. Once all clear then hand over the car.
In my mind, no money, no car.
As an afterthought, go to the business in question and say "I'll buy car X and get someone to pick it up and pay by bank transfer". If he won't do it why should you?
If it was me in this situation, I'd walk away...

Although that sort of practise is normal for big companies and main dealers I would not accept anything other than a BT while the collection driver is there.
A friend of mine fell victim to this, they stole his Polo 6R GTI.
Claimed to be a proper company, checked it out, it passed, they also had company registered - did all the HPI, collected it, told him they would BT him. Never happened. I think it eventually was found but over a year later.

Well it turns out it was legit. I did all the prep I could (checked out the website, company info, etc etc).
His driver turned up and ended up paying cash. He said they'd sold a car and the guy paid cash so they wanted rid. Wife works for a bank so borrowed their fake note uv light checker, all was good.
