Family Lawyer questions

I am a long time lurker but very rare poster under my other username.

Does anyone have any divorce lawyer recommendations and can anyone suggest how much a straight forward (hopefully) Divorce would cost.

So far i have seen an online service for divorce and consent order for £299 or a local solicitor for more like £1,400. I am not a fan of the online one because it looks a bit cheap but the other seems steep at about £700+VAT for the divorce paperwork and the same for the consent order.

If it makes any difference there are no children and the split will (again hopefully) be 50/50 for house equity and current account. This is based on an initial lump sum from me into the house and the wifes salary being considerably higher than mine

Hi, not good times! I can recommend Racylady - I found her to be really straightforward, empathetic and having the interests of sorting the couple's issues out rather than some of the tales you hear about legal fights etc.

23 years ago my divorce cost me over £7K in fees so good luck trying to get it sorted for less than £1k!

Apologies for the delayed reply, i found one soon after my post.

The divorce is as amicable as it can be at the minute but we are both buying separate houses as well which are both new builds so both 28 day exchanges so the last few weeks have been manic.

I really hope it doesn't cost 23k

Where have you got 23K from?
