a Greene King tied hungry horse restaurant/pub that could well be serving some of the best quality pints of GK beer in the area, it is more often than not rather good, and they often have interesting guests from other breweries on too all dispensed from 6 shiny handpumps its a fairly large, welcoming and friendly pub located just off the dual carrriageway behind Tesco's next door to the Toby carvery (name of the road escapes me) good quality food is prepared on site (extensive menu catering for all tastes) are served in the large dining/snug area at the front for the diners, whilst a capacious games room & stalled bar area is just up the back for the drinkers (with a big garden too) a good place for beer & food folk alike IMO

You're not honestly suggesting a Hungry Horse serves good food are you? They are even worse than the Brakes Bros stuff most pubs seems to 'heat up' these days. Probably even worse than the Little Chef! TBH, i've only eaten there once... food wasn't bad, usual pub fayre, but burgers are their speciality IIRC the plug was mainly for the quality of the real ale (know a few folk here like their beer), as a good drop of GK is a rare commodity these days! bimsb6 said: Forthright MC said: venturing out of my usual comfort zone for a good Beds pub,

We tried Fugu in Milton Keynes on Friday night. Food and the service was superb. Always good to watch the chef cook the food in front of you.

Great eating pubs/restaurants in my local area; The Star in Great Dunmow - worthy of a Michelin star, if not two - very pricey and therefore special occasions only, but absolutely stupendous food. Looking at the place from the outside you would never guess it is what it's like inside, and that they serve the food they do. Amazing. Fox and Hounds in Hunsdon. Gastro pub, excellent food not too pricey. The Bull, Much Hadham - don't be put off by the exterior - inside it's a lovely quaint 14/15th century inn with low ceilings, etc. Lovely food - not too pricey at all, very, very friendly and probably the best looking barmaids in SE England The Catherine Wheel, Albury - owned by the same fella who runs the Bull above, re-built following a fire a few years back, a little bit of contemporary style in the country - again good food at reasonable prices. Well worth the effort. Bollywoods in Hertford. Wouldn't claim to be the best Indian food in the world (although it's not bad by anyone's standards) but notable for it's amazingly buzzy atmosphere. Ofen have 80s music on at the weekends, gets turned up as the night draws on, and everyone there always seems to be having a great time. Great place to go with friends. Baan Thitaya in Hertford (there's one in Stortford also) - best Thai food I have had outside of Thailand - including many I've tried in London. Very authentic, made by Thai folk (rarer than you would imagine), and priced well. The Hertford place is the more buzzy. Try it and it won't dissapoint, promise! The Bull, C Wheel and F&H all good destinations after jaunts into the countryside....

haven't seen a mention for this place yet, but last night i visited the Engineers Arms in Henlow, fantastic pub, if your into your beer you'll think you've died and gone to heaven as soon as you enter and see the 10 handpumps spread out between both bars!
a mix of independant and real micro breweries beers are featured (often a dark beer is available too) and theres usually a selection of 6 real ciders and perries plus 1 or 2 draught and a few bottled belgian beers, a mecca for all who appreciate a proper pint!
they also do a range of homemade pies and pizza's along with other edibles and specials too

Foolish Dave said: Hare & Hounds in Old Warden has a good menu and good food. More of a resturant that sells beer than a pub that sells food sort of thing, but a very nice setting and worth a blat there to sit outside on a sunny day Agree 100% its just outside shefford and has got a bar area, food is great and the landlord is a car and bike nut! Get some nice cars in there and some half decent roads near it too really nice in the summer with a big carpark and massive beer garden. Food is also top draw.

I agree it is a lovely pub though for a meal I still prefer the Black Horse in Ireland.

Could of been the Hare and Hounds in Ledburn for the PH meet as it's housed a good few PH meets in the past. Incidentally I went to the Ledburn Hare the other night and it seems to have gone quite mightly downhill in recent times which is a shame as was a lovely little drinking/eating spot.

The people that run that also have The Eltisley in well Eltisley - we often have classic car /bike meets there

We were there last night and I thought the food was not up to it's usual high standard.
