Not a restaurant per se, but a company who hold evenings at pubs.

http://thecountrybumpkin.co.uk/

Went to the Wild Food Night they held at the Strathmore Arms in St. Pauls Walden.

Canapes:
Blackberry Shot, Rabbit Satay and Duck Pate

Starter:
Rabbit Parcel with a sweet chilli dip

Main:
Venison meatballs with linguine

Dessert:
Hazelnut merringue gateau with cream

Top, top food and a menu filled with bits you wouldn't normally find on a menu.

Bangcock Lounge in Shefford is a nice place to go, the staff are always immaculately dressed, very polite and attentive, the food is always excellent and very fairly priced i think.
Took mum and my young lady there on seperate occasions and even allowing for puddings and drinks, i didnt spend much over £27 - £28.
Well worth a visit and has a large car park, but you are well advised to book as it gets very very busy

Royal George in Stagsten, Beds. A bit out of the way, but I don't think I've ever found a nicer staff.

I know the chap that runs the company, he has a small cafe on Tewin Hill Farm. His (as well as the farms I must say) produce is exemplary. I must recommend the Venison sausages and the Rabbit wrap smile

I'm liking the look of this thread, going to have to work my way through it!

Few suggestions from me, sorry if they've already been mentioned I only looked at the last couple of pages:

The Barge - Milton Keynes
http://www.vintageinn.co.uk/thebargewoolstone/

The Cowper Arms - Letty Green (Nr. Welwyn Garden City)
http://www.thecowperarmscolegreen.co.uk/

Plume of Feathers - Tewin (Nr. WGC)
http://www.plume-of-feathers-pub-welwyn.co.uk/

The Wellington - Welwyn (NOT WGC)
http://www.wellingtonatwelwyn.co.uk/

Looking forward to checking out some of the pubs you've mentioned smile

Have to say...What a fantastic meal we had here last night, food spot on, would have expected food as good at a far pricier place, staff were very attentive and made us feel like they were there for us only, would wholly recommend. Only criticism is that the massive car park was full when we arrived.....says one thing to me V popular~!! Well done Graham and Terry!

As Harpenden res, I would rate food/pubs: Alford Arms, Wicked Lady (for food, esp F&C's), sister pub Fox for inside (food is better out of Wicked Lady) and White Horse, now a Peach Pub (burger very good), Bricklayers arms in Flaunden, Brocket Arms, Ayot St Lawrence, Plough at Bolnhurst (Beds)...nice road, the B660 to get to ! and the Fox at Willian.

Use Alistair Sawday's as my bench-guide, but then found that these days there is a bit of quid-pro-quo to get in there, albeit you can't "buy yourself an entry" and there is still a proper review process. Having camera-shot a bunch of "new" Hertfordshire entries in this year's edition, whilst staying at the Horse & Groom in Bourton-on-the-Hill (VERY recommended if you want a meal/stay in the Cotswolds), these came up...
Hermitage Rd, Hitchin
The Highlander Pub, Hitchin
The Sun at Northaw
The Blue Anchor, St Albans
The Tilbury, Datchworth
The Fox & Hounds, Hunsden

Happy Hunting !

[ Have now bought the App beerburger ]

The Mole and Chicken, Easington, near Long Crendon (Bucks) is brilliant. Lovely views and nice car park.
The Royal Standard of England, Forty Green, Beaconsfield, ditto
The Red Lion, Penn (owned by the same people as #2 above), but small car park
The Magpies (A355 between Amersham and Beaconsfield) (owned by the same people as 2, but big car park)
The Old Plow in Speen- wonderful seafood. Decent car park (restaurant though, not a pub)

Both, very good. Nathalie (pic 5) who works at both is an added bonus :-)

Can I add "the boot" in Bledlow Ridge to that list. Best Sunday lunch I've had and a nice welcome when I turned up in my '64 Bentley!

Dined at Kashu in St Albans. Lovely food (a mix of European cuisines) with nice booths and high ceilings.

Mr INDIA, LOUDWATER on the East side of Wycombe. Best curry house I've been to. The food is great and so is the service. Only problem with it is small car park.

Mint Leaf Indian restaurant in Bishops Stortford, utterly brilliant Indian food, not your usual slop, and brilliant service. Had the best Indian meal I've had in a very long time in there this evening - and I go to India a lot!.

Found this list of North Herts eateries etc, on facebook. These places have been rated Zero.
http://www.theadvertisergroup.co.uk/Daily-News/Hit...

I was surprised to find L'Artista there!
