Mechanical polishing near Amersham

Guys any recommendations my mother in law's car looks to have been attacked by the volcanic dust.

What do you mean by mechanical polishing?

machine polishing, found a mobile valeter who is going to give it a go.

I would have thought that a decent wash with a pre wash rinse, then a clay would remove most damage. Volcanic dust will not require a machine polish....bad washing and drying techniques cause swirl marks.

No I tried Clay, whatever has been on the car has pock marked it, not really sure whether polishing will do the trick, but there aren't really any other options except for a respray.

Machine polishing is a process for levelling off the paintwork. As the clearcoat is usually around 40% of the overall thickness of the paint you have to be really careful as to how much you are taking off. If I am polishing out a scratch I will not take any more than 10% of the overall thickness of the paint off in that area. Swirls are usually around 1% of the thickness but scratches can be much deeper than that. I they are more than 10% I will round off the edges of the scratch.
Potmarks I would be really cautious about as you would have to be flattening off a lot of paint in that area, its slow, time consuming and has to be monitored throughout.
