Driving back from Oxfordshire over the weekend I decided to go cross country rather than pick up the main roads and I found some great little roads around the Leighton Buzzard sort of area. I never tend to go west of the M1 when I'm out for a hoon, but now thinking I might have to explore...

I live very near to LB. There is a good mix of roads, they can be busy at times, but most of the time you can still have a good drive.

It's a good part of the country with a real mix of wide by-pass style roads, regular B roads and much smaller B and C class roads. If you want feel free to PM me and I might be able to point you at some roads.

Some great roads around... I like the drive through Long Crendon and out towards Waddesdon.

The drive out from Soulbury through to Whitchurch is good as well

^^^ - used to be my daily commute through those roads. Used to do it in my Bentley Turbo R . . . great fun (and my mechanic loved me driving fast down those lanes as it put his bill up loads!)

I've just moved out towards LB too (Ivinghoe area) and I'm loving the roads and scenery round here. So much quieter and more relaxed too. Bit of a pain having to drive further to pick up bits in a hurry though.

If you feel flush one night, book a table at the Kings Head in Ivinghoe - wonderful food and the service is excellent.

We had our wedding breakfast there and shortly afterwards they wrote to us with a voucher for a free meal for two and bottle of wine for our anniversary.

Keep meaning to go back to try the Aylesbury Duck they serve.

I know where you mean! Had a quick google and I don't think SWMBO will be letting me spend 52 quid on a main anytime soon! Nice to know there is somewhere good locally for special occasions though. Thanks!

If I remember correctly (and Toyless will probably know) but the menu price is normally for three courses...

For us it's a rare special treat but well worth it.

There are 50mph cameras, but of course you will only be doing 49 biggrin.

Re. The Kings Head; I've been there loads of times over the years (it remains a little 'conservative').

I have found it excellent when it's quiet and George (the maitre'd and co-owner?) is in charge on the day.
But at busy times and/or when George is not on duty, I have had some very poor experiences regarding the service.

wrong bypass!

The new one that runs Bletchley-ledburn ish. 1 long sweeping run, then 2 shorter runs.

No fixed scameras and not a Talivan in sight at 4am!

Do you mean the newish A4146 Stoke Hammond and Linslade Western Bypass?
That's a great road at night; loads of pretty different coloured cat's eyes
which you can see on both carriageways at the same time (on main beam) courtesy of the wire rope along the central reservation.

that's the one.

Gets a bit choppy at pace, mind.

I'd love beds police to close it for a night all the way to the last roundabout, could be some serious fun.
