Hey jaypee,

Are you copying me? I just came onto hbb&c to ask the same question!

I'm 23 and moving from Cardiff to Milton Keynes last min for a job, I only found out today that the jobs mine and I start next week!

I've lived in Mk before, lived in oldbrook but tha was about 4 years ago!

Out of everything I've seen on rightmove/gumtree etc the best options are looking the the new apartments in the hub, however they are about £850 for a 2 bed!

When we are both settled we should go for a pint or 10!

Haha yeah that was exactly my situation! Beer sounds good, I am yet to experience any sort of night life around there. If you are interested in renting rooms in places, then I can give you the contact details of two private landlords who own a lot of nice properties in MK. I chose that route as the houses seem to be full of people my age and working, so hopefully I can make some friends! I am moving into a stop gap single room for three weeks in Grange Farm on the weekend, before I get a decent room in Loughton which is all sorted now.

Cheers to everyone else for the advice, rang so true when looking around the various areas, I'm actually quite excited about moving up there and getting settled in now!

Campbell Heights isn't that great anymore, I went for a couple of viewings and they're getting a bit tired and dingy. I've no doubt some of them are still nice though if you're lucky enough to find one. Saying that, there's loads of flat complexs in Campbell Park that look fairly good now.

Also avoid Bradville, some bits of that are an absolute st hole!

some friends sold a big place in the heights just before things dropped, 2 collegues have just moved in and really like it. There are worse places to live in MK for sure.

So, when is the next MK PH meet???

Nice

Milton Keynes Village

Stony Stratford

Not nice

Lakes Estate
Fishermead
Beanhill
Netherfield
Tinkers Bridge
Greenleys
Stacey Bushes
Coffee Hall
Stantonbury
Heelands

Anything right next to or in the shopping centre area, as a general rule, is a bit pikey. With some exceptions

The flats in the hub are OK but £££££ and open to problems with noise, etc.

I have a 2 bed coachhouse with a garage for sale at a good price in a nice area, 10 mins from Bletchley. PM me if you're interested. wink
add Broughton onto the avoid list. It's new, and st.

I like Newport Pagnell, and I live in one of the several VERY nice villages north of MK, Olney is nice too, if a bit quiet.

Northampton is generally a better night out tbh, and your money goes further, but the roads are st there and it's hit-and-miss for nice and not nice areas.

If renting, the hub and the view next door are alright, there is underground parking, but I wouldn't buy there, as the council will end up owning most of those flats.

When you look at a place, drive roud the whole estate, as some have really nice bits, and grim bits, others are totally grim. (heelands is an example of the former)

also, I'm 22, working in Bletchley. I dunno if there are any local PH meets, but the local VAG and Honda scenes are pretty sociable.

Add Conniburrow to the list of undesirables as well. Heelands isn’t that bad, it has a really nice bit to the south, a bit scummy in the middle with average-nice to the north and west. Bradwell Common is probably the nicest area that is right next to CMK. I would stay away from any part of Bletchley and most estates directly surrounding CMK. If I was looking at moving house I would focus my attention on Willen, the Shenley’s and Loughton.

I guess the one at Willen lake then, the loughton one is usually rammed in the car park!

The caldecote arms has a good sized car park too if we stick to the pub theme.

I'll be your friend, haha! I was in a similar situation and moved to MK last year.

I've lived in Vizion (in CMK) which was expensive but lovely. Secure underground parking. I had a few months in The Hub (again, secure underground parking!) which was slightly cheaper than vizion but tbh the quality of the place was much much lower.

Personally, i didnt think living in CMK was all that great so moved somewhere cheaper in Bradwell Common. It wasn't the nicest area.

Currently I'm spending time between my flat in Campbell Park and my GF's in Monkston Park. Campbell Park (Secure underground parking! wink ) is great. The right distance from the bars and shops to be walkable, but quiet when you want it.

Monkston Park is a little more homely and I think a really nice area. When i serve notice on my CP place, I'll be looking for somewhere round Monkston Park I think.

The thing I've found about MK is it seems that no matter where you are, you are only 10 mins away from the place you are going!! biggrin

Also look at Two Mile Ash and Great Holm if you are set on living near CMK.
Alternativelly if you want a quieter life (and taxi bills for a night out) then look at the surrounding villages.

JB! and anyone else in the know - whats so bad about Broughton? I'm considering moving to the MK area and was looking at some of the new builds around Broughton. I need to be near schools (primary and secondary). I also need to travel to Heathrow weekly and am wondering how long this would take on average (not familiar with M1 traffic) - 1 hour realistic?
