i would have to say i completely agree with you and i live in Stevenage frown

the town has no redeeming features and most of the locals have half a brain cell at best. but if you ever wondered where your tax goes the answer is here as there all on the dole or benefit, so they all eat at the local take ways / cafes and have there hair cut and smoke.

if you ever fancy a challenge go to the local asda on a Saturday and see how long it is before you run out the store screaming.

although there is some very nice people in this town... hiding..

We moved there when I was a kid as London overspill onto one of the council concentration camp estates.
Lived there till my early 20's then moved around the local villages, Arlesey, Stotfold then Letchworth. Due to work and friends I bought a place in Pin Green, a place as a kid that was to thouse of us from the old town was a no-go area...

Grey describes the town, pubs are the only place to go with not much else going on.
When I do rarely return and drive past the old town area, all I see is more grey developments and 40mph dual carriageways (as a biker it was the only fun bit knee down round a number of the then un-traffic light controlled roundabouts...)

Horrid place, avoid like the plague. Missus says its like a cloud comes over my head when I get near (even when passing on the A1M!!).

Hang on for a second all you Stevenage bashers.

Yep just checked im on Piston Heads where "speed matters".

For those of you who live in Stevenage have you forgotten about its best part?

Yes im talking about Martins Way.

No better place(conditions and traffic permitting)to stretch your cars legs!!

Then there's Chicargo's if you fancy a BJ

I once saw 140 leptons down Martins way in a C43 very silly but lots of fun.

Stevenage is not as bad as most of you have claimed, the Old Town is a nice place to live on the whole but agreed there are parts of the town that are best avoided especially the new town centre. This is no different to any large town in the UK, even the "Garden City" Letchworth has the Jackmans estate....

When the parts of town to avoid include it's town centre that's usually a sign of a ste town.

I say that as someone who avoids his own town centre.

Stevenage's dual carriageways piss me off, atleast in Milton Keynes you can do 70 but Stevenage is blanket 40 with the odd 30

I spent many a happy night in cobarnas when I was a bit younger than I am now.

They used to have a 0.99p deal on Reef which we used to take full advantage of when back from uni. It came to a head unfortunately when after some pre going out boozing and 12 bottles of Reef I was sick down my white T Shirt at a foam party, and had to be taken home.

I have the pleasure of working in St Evenage Sur-La-Merde.

Its a dump and I try to avoid the town centre like the plague - its full of 15yr old chavettes pushing their prams with their gunts whilst jabbering on the phone, eating and smoking all at the same time. It also seems to have a huge population of one-eyed halfwits dragging their lame foot about.
I may be being completely thick, but can someone please explain the St Evenage thing. I hear it a lot from the guys who work in the Stevenage offices

Theres a few local "St" towns around it, Neots and Albans. Its a way to avoid actually saying the name of the dreaded place..

Mate of mine calls the place he lives Bury Street Edmunds... smile

It's the posh name for Stevenage.

If there really was a St Evenage he would be the sacred saint of arson / teenage pregnancy.

hehe

IMO - Previously, it goes back to yuppy speak when Battersea was called Batta-sur-le-mer....nowadays it is more closely linked to a couple of the big employers being part Froggy owned.

As a resident of Stevenage im going to go out on a limb here and say its not that bad?

Alright, the town centres got some right chav scum that frequent it, but from what ive heard, everywhere has?

The road system is alright unlike Letchworth which is the stupidest system ive ever seen, i mean seriously, one single lane road to the A1? its bonkers

Good transport links thanks to fast train into Kings Cross, Two junctions onto the A1

Dont see what the fuss is about

Have you lived there long?
I spent about 22 years on and off living there and I cant say theres any reason for living there other than its close to work.
Most of the place is council houses built in the 70's as large areas of overspill housing.
It has expanded so far it started to encroach on the surrounding villages which were mainly untouched by the stench of St Evenage.

I preferred Letchworth, quieter, cleaner and safer.

Though I'd not really want to live in either if I had to!

The only good thing about Stevenage is SAABTECH who look after my car.
Other than that it's a dump.
My parents and my sister live in Walkern which is close to Stevenage and some of the countryside round there is lovely.
I quite often drive from islington up there on a Sunday morning in my Saab to where my MX5 is garaged at my parents and then hoon round the lovely roads.
Nothing but speed bumps where I live in N1.
Stevenage seems to have the ugliest, chaviest, trashiest people I've seen in the uk living there!

Amongst the many, many motability chariots a couple stood out for me, both middle aged, he unshaven....her too come to that, pasty complections, grossly overweight, bedecked in trainers and joggers (oh the irony) grey matted hair and he had a numberplate made up to read 'Mr Big' across the handlebars, as if to stand out amongst the crowd
