I know next to nothing about boats but for some reason have a real fascination with boat engines.
Powerboats with a couple of blown Chevy motors, mega money outboards, 6 million horsepower diesels etc...
What are the most impressive/newest/biggest/fastest ones out there? Can one purchase a small nuclear reactor to strap on the back on one's dinghy? Could a Veyron motor be marinised to make some sort of uber jetski? Would the channel crossing be significantly faster with the addition of a couple of rockets?
Educate/inspre me oh great boatmeisters of PH.

I prefer traditional - this is Gar Wood's 'Miss America X' with the 'extra engines' pack fitted - 4 x 1800hp 12-cylinder Packard engines:

for me (and i dont know a lot about boats) it has the be the mercury Racings 1350 BHP twin turbo, quad cam, 9.0ltr V8s. They look brilliant (ok maybve not as good as the Lambo motor above lol) and produce killer power. very impresive. http://www.mercuryracing.com/blog/tag/qc4v/Chris.

If they ban a world record attempt on 'environmental grounds' then truly the last vestige of national pride has gone. National, bad. Must eat more tofu and be miserable.

The area has been slowly eroded over the years now Simpo with the 10 knot blanket limit over the whole of the lakes. I seem to remember when the committee voted in favour of a K7 run there were objections as the byelaws would have to rewritten to take account of it. At the time it was commented that it took a huge public inquiry to get the 10 knot byelaws approved and the naysayers would expect the same level of public inquiry to be fought again just to allow a single planing run upto 100mph max as it wasn't a world record attempt which the byelaws allow for subject to individual application. Powerboat records week had to move from Windermere in 2005 to Coniston due to the byelaws and technically shouldn't allow a run unless it is a bonafide record attempt. Hippocrites of the highest level, love the historic association with speed record attempts and the tourism element but don't like the smell of it when it actually happens.

I particularily like M/Y Ecstasea, as on top of the 4 x 3000hp MTU mains, she has a 19000hp GE turbine that powers this jet drive! M/Y Ecstasea by tristanrowe, on Flickr Please note the size comparison with crew member on the passerelle!
