And let's face it, who hasn't thought it whilst passing an oncoming car at speed at the bottom of a dip?

Oh, just me then paperbag

The twinkle roll afterwards is proving tricky in 2D though
I think the Twinkle Roll was from the Gnat days. The Gnat had a much faster roll rate than the Hawk.

Yes it was the Gnat, basically if they removed Fuse 13 it removed the limit on aileron angle at high speeds, however it caused high amounts of stress to components on the air frame and resulted in the death of an aircrew.

not surprised, it's half the size of a Hawk

I recall that too. Mabe if I open the bonnet and pull a fuses out it will work for me too. Would certainly surprise the other road users - if they are not staring at their speedos.

Confusing for the Dutch pilots though.

I often used to wonder what the Dutch Air Force F-27 demonstration pilot was on.

Schmoek on - go.....

Read this on the Airshow Review forum and it brought a tear to my eye so I thought I would share it with you.

Someday we will know, where the pilots go
When their work on earth is through.
Where the air is clean, and the engines gleam,
And the skies are always blue.
They have flown alone, with the engine's moan,
As they sweat the great beyond,
And they take delight, at the awesome sight
of the world spread far and yon.

Yet not alone, for above the moan, when the earth is
out of sight,
As they make their stand, He takes their hand,
and guides them through the night.
How near to God are these men of sod,
Who step near death's last door?
Oh, these men are real, not made of steel,
But He knows who goes before,

And how they live, and love and are beloved,
But their love is most for air.
And with death about, they will still fly out,
And leave their troubles there.
He knows these things, of men with wings,
And He knows they are surely true.
And He will give a hand, to such a man
'Cause He's a pilot too.

iv often thought how they figured it out.
was it just a case of full right stick and rip some fuses out then see what happens?

Probably tricky to do whilst rolling... (ever tried retrieving a stray apple from the passenger footwell whilst driving?!) Suspect they looked at the wiring diagram first! (if it's not an urban myth)

The pilot was practicing for a display. The aircraft did something goofy during a turn. The pilot reported it to the blues. The blues worked out that the ailerons were doing something odd and found fuse thirteen had blown. Bob's your mothers brother.

and can also be quite humorous when he starts singing the tune of the Star Spangled Banner on landing as he did at Fairford a few years ago when the Thunderbirds were on site wink

For all those who feel the pain of his loss, reflect on this.

His widow, Emma is taking his place on a coast to coast charity cycle ride in October.

Details, and how to donate, here.

Go on, for the price of a few litres of unleaded you can make your voice heard directly to her.

Wow, that's humbling.

Is it time for another PH massive similar to the Hamsters efforts a few years ago?

As one rather remotely connected to the Arrows (I was one of the team of technicians that installed the colour smoke system in the original Gnat aircraft of the Arrows) I really feel for the family and the pilot's team mates. Even though the currect aircraft are different, I still love to watch the displays with a sort of psychological 'connection'.
RIP.

Mystery Light 'Under Stricken Red Arrows Jet'

http://news.sky.com/home/uk-news/article/16056204

Reflection or possible engine fire? Could be a clue to the cause of the accident, on the other hand could be completely unrelated.

I am not sure what it could be but it is interesting that it is only on that aircraft.

Is that definitely Red 4?

That is a strobe light. It is just forward of the airbrake. There is also one above the fuselage.

Nothing unusual about that. It is not an explosion blow out or anything else that has been described in the media, just an anti-collision strobe.

The media haven't done their research and have just jumped on a story without researching it.

Here is a pic I took at RIAT this year, see the strobe on the top of the fuselage.

I am not saying you are wrong, I have no idea either way but would they be switched on?

I can't find a video on you tube that shows them displaying with them switched on?

ETA, I have now found one, you are clearly correct!
