Thus, while a 'Flypast' may include a 'Missing Man' (and note the 'Missing Man' is NOT a Formation per se, but a Formation where one a/c pulls up and OUT of the Formation), this will be a Flypast and NOT a full Public Display. Given that a Flypast is not a full display, then OC RAFAT will have the ability to authorise such.

For the Reds to do a 'Missing Man' as part of their display would require them to go back and be re-authorised by AOC 22 Gp.

Given that we are now in September and towards the end of the 2011 Display Season, I can't see this happening.
Well they must have had it re-authorised for the Great North Run. It's the first time i have ever seen it and i sincerely hope it's the last.
I think we'll find that the part of the programme where they flew over the start and the Tyne bridge and "missing man" happened will be considered a flypast as GG says.

I have to say that during the BBC coverage I had a very "gulpy" throat during the Arrows displays and where they interviewed Jon's wife. I like to think that "someplace" there's an ex-Red who is very proud of his wife after yesterday.

Well said Perdu. Glad i was not the only one who felt like that. It was very moving to see six of the reds trailing white smoke with one trailing red smoke & it must have taken great courage for Jon's wife to have watched that display.

Two of the black Hawks made a high speed run up the River Dart on the Thursday after the accident as the Reds had been due to display at Dartmouth Regatta the following afternoon.

It was quite eerie watching them as they dipped their wings lightly as they flew up the estuary.

She really was amazing yesterday. It has to be nearly impossible to stay that composed on national TV whilst looking up and seeing a spot in the sky where her husband should be flying.

The Reds got a huge cheer down at the bridge. I heard a couple of people ask why one of them had broken away and heard others explaining why.

She seemed to me to be the sort of wife that a Red Arrows pilot should have, IYSWIM!
