If it helps I just Googled images and that was the clearest picture of it I found at the time.

The image was taken from this site.

Looks like it would have come from this NASA picture. This video shows it being zoomed in.

It is from STS 88. It is linked to in another post I made on here where the commander had to alter orbit for safety. It mentions the bit it had to avoid was from a Delta II launch and I believe it was a Mars probe that eventually went south.
It may be the same bit in the image. Not looked at all the youtube but are they are doing a visual effect zoom on the image in the bit I looked at. It would seem you can apply for a larger version than the web site linked to. Any little green men when it zooms in?

Theredfore if it was from something first detected orbiting the earth in 1960 are we to believe it had been in low eartgh orbit for 38 years? No at all likely.

Was it really first detected in 1960?

I thought that's what the first post suggested.

Nothing can stay in low earth orbit for 38 years.

Stop postingh links and start explaining yourself.

I much prefer people to explain in their own words what they have found out and why they think the topic is worth talking about.

There are enough people here on PH to be able to explain whether your interpretation of what you have uncovered makes sense or not.

The one thing I don't want to be doing is chasing around the internet reading waffly and dumb websites.

Things can, but not unsupported! I get the feeling that you're as sceptical as I am about this!

A page back I was trying to find a link to the press cuttings that reported the satellite/satellites had been discovered in 1954 ( also written about on the Wiki page I linked to), but was unable to find any live links to them.

I then found a youtube video which a guy showed the supposed press cuttings on a site.

Have now found the supposed press cuttings that are the same as the video....I got a little excited as it's taken ages to find them. smile

Sorry frown

I am. For a satellite or spacecraft to remauin in low earth orbit for many yaers, it needs to have its orbit boosted every couple of months - as is done with the International Space Station.

A dead craft in low orbit will decay and re-enter within months.
