Want a bet?

Commercial strength will normally be backed up by military and, in this technical age, technological strength as well.

At the moment, China does have an economic advantage. But one lesson we all know from economic history is that economic strength can dissipate very quickly. So, to bolster that economic strength, having superiority in other areas is something any aspiring superpower must also possess.

I'm not sure I would want to go up against china militarily either. Remember I said "consist entirely". Military does come into it, but China holds a lot of purse strings.

In a way it's good that China are moving forward so fast, but I believe it's also a little ominous.

We in the West are sitting back seemingly doing nothing whilst China gets stronger and advances very quickly.

Is she a credible threat? At the moment, not really, but in ten to twenty years time? Who knows?
Rather than sitting back, I'd say we're falling back. Who'd have thought that the West would be defeated by 'green' politics, it's crazy frown

I'd say defeated by millions of people working very hard making things for little money, governed by shrewd people who aren't swayed by political niceties. They make stuff, we borrow money to buy it, money flows from West to East until they have it all, whilst we are led by idiots borrowing more money to bail out Greece & Co who will piss it up the wall.
