Ther Indians already use the Jaguar (part French) and various Mirage variants (100% French) and all made by Dassault.

What do you think?

What do you think they would gain by continuing that relationship?

The same that continuity of supplier always brings.

So far, they seem to be satisfied customers of Dassault.

They also operate Harriers, MiGs and Sukhois.

I do think they'll go for the Rafale, but because it is a better aircraft, with a more dependble after sales support infrastructure; not due to it being French.

Nothing to do with it being "French" - but everything to do with it being "Dassault".

Interesting.

They are going to buy 200 or so of the 5th gen Russian PAK fighter too no ?

That's a super capable air fleet, more so than pretty much anyone except Russia, China and the US.

I wonder if the UK plans to get into 5th gen aircraft at some stage - if we don't we have very little defence against Russia and China...

Better than the Typhoon? How so?

Rafale M version, naval version for their new carriers which the Typhoon isn't.

I think it's time for the "aid" cash flow to be reversed.

What like the F-35 Lightning II that we've paid an horrendous amount to the Yanks to partake in it's development!

Strange justification as the other part of the Jaguar is British!

I was making the point that the Indian Air Force have a long history of dealing with the Dassault company (not the "French" per se). They already use many Dassault products so it doesn't take a great leap of imagination to suggest that Dassault might already have a foot in the door regarding the next Indian order for a state of the art fighter aircraft.

No the Marine version entered service in 2002. French Navy operated 31.

India have a refurbished ex-Soviet carrier arriving plus their own home build and they will want nice shiny new aircraft for it.

The Rafale is currently further developed than the Eurofighter but the Eurofighter has planned and projected continued development and more operators to find the additional funding from.

The Rafale has only just hit 100 aircraft built and is in service with just one country and production has been slowed so to avoid early closure of the production line.

The Eurofighter has over 450 aircraft delivered to multiple airforces, so more aircraft to service, spread development costs over and countries looking for upgrades.

Japan is also keen on the Eurofighter so further sales and development potential there.

India would be brave to take the Rafale over the Eurofighter, doesn't mean they won't though!

Yes and yes.

We are signed up to own 3 off prototypes so I'd guess we'll get those to spread around a couple of UK aircraft museums at some point!
