All very sad.

I can't think how this ejection was initiated or why the normal sequence didn't continue to a safe conclusion for the pilot.
This is what I don't understand. Electrical short?

Remember the old days of pinning up the navigators seat in a Canberra PR9, can't remember whether it was one handful of pins or two offhand, but certainly remember the procedure for working your way "backwards" to pin it up whilst kneeling on the seatpan yikes didn't like that very much to be honest.
Wyton ?

I won't say RIP, not needed.

I'll say that I remember the arrows from seeing them at a very young age for their inspiring performance.

Long may they continue, I hope my kids will get the same enjoyment that I had.

Something i couldn't hope to do, ever.

Pupp,

On a harrier though, you could have it in safe for maintenance (all pins fitted) or safe for parking, seat pan pin not fitted but seat handle in safe.
Hawk has safe for servicing or safe for parking as well.

Sad news indeed.
I hope it is not the end for them, they are symbolic to england and the forces in many ways.

I think we need to exercise some caution naming the pilot before the official announcement.

The name that has been mentioned on this thread is not the name that was being bandied around yesterday.

Rag as it is, it's hardly going to publish name and photos of a chap uninvolved in the incident, whilst confirming the fatality is it?

Even so, I think it was irresponsible of them and anyone else to name names when the family have expressly asked for it not to be released.

The Telegraph now have the same name as this thread.

RIP to both of those killed this year. It's horrendously sad, the reds haven't suffered any fatalities for years and now they've had 2 in 3 months!!

I wish the MSM would stop with the doom and gloom "end of the team" type rubbish, the last thing our idiot politicians need is the media giving them idea's.

RIP guys, you entertained and inspired wherever you went.

What?!

It was being reported that he wasn't dead as was previoussly reported. Bearing in mind that that publication was the only one at the time to say he had died. I though that was a great reason to be happy.

It is desperately sad for all concerned.

Hope it is not another problem with Hawk seats in general - my BiL sits on one for a living.

I suspect it is. If you consider the goings on with the first crash it seemed odd to me at the time that the pilot didnt eject and i am now wondering if it failed.

Anyone know what the previous reported seat fault was? I guess it wasn't in-advertant ejection or we'd have heard about it...

Pupp,

Well on a tonka, no. But it's just extra safety. The seat pan pin would be physically in the way of you pull the black and yellow handle between your legs but would you want to take that chance?

Then there's the canopy mdc pins, and canopy jettison pin, plus the cross drive shaft etc.

On a harrier though, you could have it in safe for maintenance (all pins fitted) or safe for parking, seat pan pin not fitted but seat handle in safe.
Yeah ^^^ had the brief on induction at the ex JUMP line, thought it was a pretty dated safety system compared to others TBH.
