They have started advertising on Quest (freeview channel 38 or something) they have made a programme about Apollo 17, the end of man on the moon. No dates yet, but it could be very interesting.

Thanks for that. Should be worh a look. It's always been my favourite Apollo mission - although I don't know why they are referring to it as an "untold story".

Sods law we don't get it on terrestrial for a while but what can they say? There are many memoirs and many documents out there.

Cannot see why they use the term Untold Story though. Nice to see interviews with Brits involved. Refreshing anyway.

There is a tendency in books and TV documentaries at the moment to use the words "Untold Story", "Lost" or "Forgotten" in the titles of books or films. In most cases, such phrases are inappropriae and the story they are telling have already been topld before. There are exceptions but on the whole it's media hyperbole.

Still nice to see some of the later Apollo missions covered. I missed it last night as I was out so hopefully I can get to see it tonight.

They get away with it because 99% of the population is ignorant of the subject.

Secrets of Stonehenge
Secrets of Tutankhamun
etc

It's all been well documented for decades if not centuries, but few people read or know much more than what Kaff did to Pete in Eastenders.

Watched it tonight. I have to say I was mildly disappointed. I found that a lot of the TV footage they used was not as good a quality as it should really have been. For some reason, the images were badly pixilated and "blocky", which they should not have been.

Also, they slipped in far too many pieces of film or TV from other Apollo missions rather than 17.

It's a real pity they didn't show the original TV footage of the night launch, which is easily available to seee - even on youtube -

I got that impression with the video. I suspect there was a bit of downloaded content rather than the DVD with better quality that is available. The ubiquitous staging shots seem to be used by many for effect.

I am sure that the staging shots come from some of the unmanned test flights of the Saturn V rather than the maned missions.

Apollo 4 - you can tell by the colour of the insulation on the top of the LOX tank ;-)

What was the difference?

IIRC Apollo 4 just had the internal tank insulation, and the top of the tank was yellow zinc chromate. Later ones had either silver mylar insulation, and the last few had orange/brown spray on foam insulation

Thanks. I'll bear that in mind in my model building.

What about the Saturn IB?

IIRC all S-IVBs had silver insulation on the tank tops, as did the S-1 and S-1B ( the Airfix kit part for the tank tops of the S-1 is very inaccurate though )
