Summers evening about 7pm, brand new mx5, roof down, hot and lit by the evening sun, on a deserted country road doing more than i should have been and enjoying myself throughly.
Look right and theres an apache longbow hoppping the hedges, and to my left is another one- can't be more than 30 foot away, and no more than 40-50ft from the ground (they were hopping telegraph wires!).
Up the speed and they helf formation for well over 10 minutes through these country lanes before turnign away at the outskirts of the next town- not before waving (their nose guns) at me.
One of THE most memorable occasions in my life- still makes me happy inside

Awesome, awesome experience - you are a very lucky boy.
I used to be a delivery driver in North Yorkshire, and I was particularly friendly with a local chippy in Thornton le Dale. Having acquired my delicious meal, I drove up to Dalby Forest for my tacho break. Lovely, quiet, feet up out the window, bliss.
Until two Chinooks at fk all feet thundered over the treetops from behind me. I literally didn't hear them until they were on top of the van. Nearly chucked my chips over the dashboard. Awesome

The Apache is just awesome.
Can you imagine being the bad guy? Not that you'd ever see much of the heli if you were the target, but if you did, it would put the fear of god / allah / noel edmonds right up yer bum.
Amazing machines.
Depends if the bad guy is in a Kamov Ka-50/52....Can you imagine being the bad guy? Not that you'd ever see much of the heli if you were the target, but if you did, it would put the fear of god / allah / noel edmonds right up yer bum.

I was down the boatyard in Bangor, N.Wales last weekend working on a friend's boat and heard a THUD-THUD-THUD in the distance, I knew straight away what it was and positioned myself to take a view down the Menai Straights towards the bridges to witness a Chinook coming down the straights at height ... glorius sight it was.
Travelling down the A55 towards Conwy yesterday evening and saw a Hercules nice and low following the road towards me and then banking to his right to head down the Conwy valley ... all this with a very fine mist adding to the affect (no idea how massive these things were!).
Then to top the treat off, 10 minutes later I'm driving through Llanfairfechan tunnel and exit the other end to see a Chinook to my right about 100 meters off the coast.
No doubt from RAF Valley but it seems a lot more activity about these days.

One landed in the field behind us in Holmfirth last night, was amazing. First it passed then turned and landed. It would appear it was a novice pilot who got lost and asked the land owner for directions. The sound and the way you feel it thumping in the chest as it flies really low and slow. The kids loved it, big smiles all round.
Was a strange day as there was another military chopper which flew very low up the valley at lunch.

Apologies for the quality but my Nokia could'nt keep up with the Army's finest.
This was the second of two to fly past one lunchtime in February just north of Colchester.
I believe they are part of the Airbourne Assault based in Colchester but stand to be corrected.
The first one was closer and lower and banked as they flew past. As sad as my colleagues told me I had to wave.
They fly over pretty much everyday and I love it!!

I have to ask.. Why would you assume he was a lost novice pilot? If he was a novice do you think his co-pilot would be too? Was a strange day as there was another military chopper which flew very low up the valley at lunch.
Pretty sure they have pretty decent gps onboard that even the rookies can use.
Happy to be proven wrong but I don't think they let novices free on their own?
