Now this I would love to see. If it is built with all of the oppulance and style of the original it should be quite an experience to travel on.

Bonkers; I can't look at the beeb as it's verboten, is it actually a replica or just a lookylikey, i.e. wider as the original is extremely narrow by modern standards?

ETA I see on the Daily Wail site it's to be dimensionally the same, so silly narrow and with a sheer line to drive any modern shipbuilder to distraction.

Not sure it will ever happen for one reason - what is the point?

I also know that many Aussies are unhappy that the guy is using a Chinese shipyard. The Aussies, apparently, cant understand why their own shipbuilders cannot build the ship.

No different to the UK on that on - the Chinese would have offered a better price which the Aussies couldnt match.

Also i didnt know that the Aussies had a ship-building heritage that would enable them to build such a big ship.

More likely the Australian shipbuilders said "It can't be built safely".

Let's hope it's not an exact copy down to the design of the rivets and the number of life-boats. It would certainly be interesting to see whether how well the tickets sell for the maiden voyage.

Or how exorbitant the rent for the heli-pad is

I wonder how many lifeboats it will have.

It would be terrific to experience a trip, mush as it would to fly on a Helium filled R101 or Hindenberg. But I bet H&S / design constraints would mean that it would look completely wrong.

I would prefer to see a SS Normandie though.

What company do you work for where the BBC website is forbidden but you can happily browse Pistonheads and the Daily Mail?!

I can't help thinking this will be a normal, but scaled, cruise liner with a "Titanic" theme to cash in on the whole thing rather than an exact replica for the sake of making one that doesn't sink.

There are plenty of things that will have to differ from the original design.

I guess the big question is how faithful they are going to stay to the original.

No doubt a lot of the wood inside will be replaced with imitation fire retardant materials, the engines will be modern and the 2nd and 3rd class will be brought up to modern safety and comfort standards.

Still going to be plenty of internal space left over though as modern engines will take up a lot less room than the old coal fired boilers.

At least it will look nice! Modern cruise ships are hideous top heavy monstrosities. There's hasnt been a decent "Line" in a steamer for about 80 years................

(so, what are the chances? Can lighting strike twice?? ;-)

Chinese shipyard. rofl
There's only one reason to build in a Chinese shipyard.
If you can't afford to do it properly, don't bother.

I wonder if it will more like a BMW MINI compared to the original or like one of those GT40 replicas where almost all the parts are swappable with the original?

A company which provides me and my shipmates with gratis interwebbing but strictly nothing with video content(no BBC, youtube etc) and no social media, as these activities absorb expensive satellite bandwidth like a gigantic sponge of banality. The IT stasi let us use ebay, online newspapers and various forums presumably because it keeps us from murdering each other and ramming the nearest oilrig in a modern day iteration of Drake's fireships is good for morale.
