Billionaire to build Titanic replica
Discussion
Now this I would love to see. If it is built with all of the oppulance and style of the original it should be quite an experience to travel on.

Bonkers; I can't look at the beeb as it's verboten, is it actually a replica or just a lookylikey, i.e. wider as the original is extremely narrow by modern standards?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-17890754
ETA I see on the Daily Wail site it's to be dimensionally the same, so silly narrow and with a sheer line to drive any modern shipbuilder to distraction.
Not sure it will ever happen for one reason - what is the point?
I also know that many Aussies are unhappy that the guy is using a Chinese shipyard. The Aussies, apparently, cant understand why their own shipbuilders cannot build the ship.
No different to the UK on that on - the Chinese would have offered a better price which the Aussies couldnt match.
Also i didnt know that the Aussies had a ship-building heritage that would enable them to build such a big ship.

More likely the Australian shipbuilders said "It can't be built safely".I also know that many Aussies are unhappy that the guy is using a Chinese shipyard. The Aussies, apparently, cant understand why their own shipbuilders cannot build the ship.

What company do you work for where the BBC website is forbidden but you can happily browse Pistonheads and the Daily Mail?!ETA I see on the Daily Wail site it's to be dimensionally the same, so silly narrow and with a sheer line to drive any modern shipbuilder to distraction.
Built by a Chinese state owned shipyard and escorted across the Atlantic from the UK to the USA by the Chinese Navy????
WTF????

There are plenty of things that will have to differ from the original design.
I guess the big question is how faithful they are going to stay to the original.
No doubt a lot of the wood inside will be replaced with imitation fire retardant materials, the engines will be modern and the 2nd and 3rd class will be brought up to modern safety and comfort standards.
Still going to be plenty of internal space left over though as modern engines will take up a lot less room than the old coal fired boilers.

A company which provides me and my shipmates with gratis interwebbing but strictly nothing with video content(no BBC, youtube etc) and no social media, as these activities absorb expensive satellite bandwidth like a gigantic sponge of banality.
