The lack of interesting aircraft is nothing to do with any of that. The fact that we don't have a Lighning flying today at airshows is the same reason why we didn't have Sopwith Camels flying at airshows in the 1970s.

Just thought I'd bump this in light of the previous comments re aircraft participation. Northrop B2 is now confirmed, and a whole bunch of other stuff mean this is now shaping up to be one of the best Tattoo's in recent years.

If only the Americans could afford fuel so we could see any of it flying!

The flying display will be impressive enough I think.

B2 on the deck is just as impressive as in the air, the thing is stunning.
I bet security is super tight around it!)

I miss seeing the b1b and b52 flying. I'd also love to see a couple of fly pasts of the galaxy. Mind you the flying display on offer this year is the best for a while and I can't wait to see the mig 29 again!

I would've thought it wouldn't be too hard to work out the departure/arrival slot for the B2 if someone had access to the call-sign they'd be using through UK airspace?

Having seen one do a display at an airshow, once you get over it's amazing silhouette in the sky (and a silhouette is pretty much all you can make out), it's not very exciting. It flys in a sedate fashion and is very quiet. The fast jets are much more exciting.

Any RIAT veterans know if the Grandstand tickets are worth it?

We're going again this year, real shame the B2 isn't going to be flying however I'm looking forward to seeing it up close anyway. Just hope the weather is good!
Shame the F22 isn't going to be back as that was impressive in 2010!

Shame the F22 isn't going to be back as that was impressive in 2010! The F22 certainly put on the most incredible show - the way it took off, almost seemed to stop and then go almost completely vertical was jaw dropping. I'd love to see a B2 in the air again - my kids need to see that, and my memory needs refreshing. Shame.

Just looked at the site. It's not the most compelling list compiled, though still an improvement over the last year few years. From the flying list, i'd probably put a circle around the Polish MiG-29 display as the outstanding one to see.
It's a pity the Russians stopped doing airshow's though. The MiG-29OVT at Farnborough '06 has burned itself into my memory as the most awe-inspiring piece of flying i've ever seen. If WW3 ever happens and it comes to an air war, the allies are stuffed!

Went in 2010, got to agree with everyone about the F22, it was amazing, it was almost like he didn't lift off, just put the carriage up and kept it level, then straight back on the stick and disappeared into the clouds.
Shame about the B52 as well, always fun to watch it leave massive black clouds as it takes off.
Might have to look into going next year again!
Hopefully one day they'll start Mildenhall again, many great displays there as a kid.

Personally, so long as I get to see XH58 in the air I couldn't give a stuff what else is flying!! Never seen her in the air - missed her twice last year when displays were cancelled due to the s t weather so, assuming that Rolls Royce sign her off as fit to fly, I should finally get to cross 558 in the air off my bucket list. If not I'll be well pissed off!!!!
