Heard the classic radial noise and looked out my kitchen window to see a Dakota fly over my house (foot of the NY Moors) at only a few hundred feet. Very very shiny new looking camo paint, RAF roundels, and invasion stripes.

Where will that be from then? Never seen it before.

Thanks, I thought the BBMMF comprised the Spit, Hurricane and Lanc. I hadn't realised there were other aircraft too.

Seems it was displaying at Elvington and heading up to Newcastle.

Looked in very very good condition for an old lady.

The term 'Battle of Britain' is getting awfully stretched!

It's always been stretched. When it first formed it had late mark Spitfires only and a couple of later Hurricanes. The Lancaster was added in 1973. Virtually none of the aircraft it actually flies have any direct connection with the Battle of Britain.

It acquired the C-47 when it was relinquished by the RAE at Farnborough in the early 1990s. It serves as a good trainer for pilots converting onto the Lancaster - as well as being a bona fide World War 2 veteran in its own right.

They also have a couple of Chipmunks for general tailwheel conversion.

They used to operate a De Havilland Devon as well but I'm sure that's been retired since.
