You might think it's awesome, but it's just another in the F-35's long list of failures. The 'Warning. This vehicle is reversing...' didn't sound. All pilots without a 'really loud voice' are now grounded. In this picture you can see the folding metal roof is opening so pedestrians can hear the pilots warning.(if you're going to make a catapult/runway/ski ramp/hellipad fighter/strike/wild weasel/stealth aircraft you mayaswell make it into a convertible as well)

Uphill or downhill?
Once got into an argument with a flat-earther who stated 'if the planet was round then any ship or car will always be travelling downhill so why dont they always go faster?'SO that's why planes go faster in a dive, it's even more downhill...

“The F-35 program recognizes there are about four months of potential risk in the 3F testing schedule; however, at this point in time the program is still tracking to a summer 2017 end date for 3F testing,” JPO spokesman Joe DellaVedova said in an email. “The JPO does not intend on ‘short cutting’ any required testing. Removal of test points by the combined JPO, industry and warfighting team occurs only after a thorough and disciplined review of what is required to deliver the promised capabilities.”
On the 2B software, the JPO says “all critical must-fix deficiencies were addressed.” It’s up to the Marines, Air Force and Navy decide “whether to fix deficiencies immediately, fix them in later increments, or not fix them at all.”
Good to see that lifelong customer care for their $130 million wonder jet...
"Tests of how Lockheed Martin Corp.’s F-35 will perform in combat won’t begin until at least August 2018, a year later than planned, and more than 500 of the fighter jets may be built before the assessment is complete, according to the Pentagon’s test office.
“These aircraft will require a still-to-be-determined list of modifications” to be fully capable, Michael Gilmore, the U.S. Defense Department’s top weapons tester, said in his annual report on major programs. “However, these modifications may be unaffordable for the services as they consider the cost of upgrading these early lots of aircraft while the program continues to increase production rates in a fiscally constrained environment.”

Evening chaps,
Random question but seems like the best place to ask, if we're all not too busy arguing (!) over the speed of the carrier.
I've been asked to interview some students at work on their ideas around a current news story relating to marine engineering projects. I thought the place of the new carriers would be a point to discuss.
I'm supposed to frame it around news articles in the press and I've already got this: http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/nov/23/st...
Urgh, the Guardian!
Does anyone have any other suggestions/articles to hand?
There are obviously a large number of issues around the carrier, the jets selected, power source, relevance to modern military. Anything else to discuss/ask?
THanks in advance!

You may or may not care to see the mud scooping machine that's clearing the sea bed in Portsmouth Harbour in preparation for the arrival of HMS QE. It's not like the traditional dredgers with a vacuum cleaner type attachment or conveyor belt load of buckets, it's not much more than a floating glorified JCB.
Not massively thrilling, but the new tug to assist with QE..

Oh I dunno. I like a nice tugboat and it'll be good to see it working QE and PoWhttp://www.damen.com/en/news/2016/02/serco_procure...

Good to see that the issue of top speed clearly remains important to several posters.
You're resorting to fictitious quoting, which is surprising for someone of your professional standing.

12.5kts is too slow, we'd be better off with two of them and enough power to do 17.5kts.
