Well they weigh less underwater, so easier to lift...

That's spooky, the post ghost must have knicked your earlier post! biggrin

I'm sure if you get some spare time and I'm up I get you on-board for a look-see. Might be worth waiting for her to be dragged out the dock and a bit more outfit to be in-place first though. She's changed a lot since you were last here then.

Good luck on T26 beer, that's a part of ship building that I don't have a clue about, I get confused if it doesn't have wires hanging out the back or shoots anything!! laugh

Indeed, laugh , it's going to be a very specialist team of divers that do it. It'll be quite an evolution to witness, hope I get the chance.

I dread the day the first Carrier comes down to Pompey, parking in the dockyard will be shocking, The Carrier will no doubt take up all of Victory/Sheer/MS Jetty and therefore push everything else over FL Jetty. They need to start building Multi Storeys or the MOD plod will have a field day towing cars.

Her core ships company is no different to that of a current CVS (give or take a few), so hopefully the level of parking required won't change to what's needed now.

The problem is the size of the thing as its much bigger than the current CVS, where has Lusty would take up 1/2 Jetty's you could fit a 23/45 ahead or astern of her, with the new carrier coming down it will take up 3/4/5 Jetty's and all other ships will be forced over to FLJ. TBH any Carrier alongside and traffic is a nightmare.

1600 against what, 1000?

Or are my figures out of date, since she'll now have a fraction of the number of proposed aircraft?
1600 includes the airwing, which is never embarked in home port for any length of time anyway.

Some of the imagery around is a bit mis-leading, she's about 33% longer I think and 50% wider. The problem of space isn't as much of an issue as it used to be anyway is it? We don't have as many ships as we did.

Alongside in Pompey.

And leaving harbour.

Have you seen Pompey dockyard Today, If anything comes alongside they will have to go outboard of something, as its toppers.

Weather is... awesome down here atm, Yea it does look 'full', mostly ships on leave before they all deploy shortly.

Some ships are on it already those who are deploying together, we're taking ours next month... probably when the weather turns crap again.

Couldn't they make the front end a bit, er, rounder? Looks like a B&Q work top to me...... ;-)

Same size the the Houses of Parliament? There's an idea. Load it up with everyone from Parliament, sail to the Pacific stop over the Challenger Deep and sink the whole lot.

That's a waste of a perfectly good ship, just have hands to bathe in the middle of the ocean and then f*** off quick before the buggers could climb back on board.

Guzz was a tight fit for Ark Royal (4) and Eagle. I take it the QEC will never go there?

Also what about Glenmallon?

I'm not sure what the plan is for OST (Operational Sea Training for those members that aren't "anchor-faced" laugh). As most of us know, OST was moved from Portland (when I was in) to Guzz (Plymouth). I would guess that when a ship is normally alongside during OST that QEC wil be at anchor, or the OST staff will come to Pompey to do the sure based exercises? Any further thought from those in the know?

Ash I remember ships at anchor off Portland when FOST did their thing there.

What was the routine? Did CVS come alongside there? Dit the "fleet" come in for the night after a day out training?

Yeah CVS could come alongside in Portland, down the Catherine wheel and stagger back.

I can see the QE staying out by the breakwater for OST and running ships.
