They have

Sea Hawk FGA.6 WV908
Sea Fury FB.11 VR930
Fairey Swordfish Mk.I W5856
Fairey Swordfish Mk.II LS326
Chipmunk T.10 WK608

So you see they have it all covered, fighter, ground attack, torpedo attack and trainer. What more do they need. smile

Have we got any Gannets? AEW might be useful (in case the T45s are not available)

A few very, very, very expensive unproven white elephants are on order......that may (or may not rolleyes) be ready in time for it's first deployment.

Sounds ideal for hockey, always ended a winter game by pulling gravel out of knees and elbows.

Anyway QE will take a long while before she's on commission but I guess her first deployments will be mostly as a floating helo pad.
Indeed, fond memories! smile

(on totally un-related topic, what's with the agreeing to T&C's before posting, that's a new one on me!!). biglaugh

so when she launches (tomorrow I believe) where to next, will she remain in the same shipyard, or move elsewhere?
Are we likely to see her "darn sarf" or will we have to wait till she is in service?

Chinook
Merlin
Puma
Lynx
Wildcat
Sea king
Apache

Think that's quite a good line up for our new helicopter carrier to support.

Better send the ship over to the USA then if you want to include the white elephant in the mix as that's where our couple of F-35B's are.

MOD really, really wanted one here for tomorrow's flypast over the official ship unveiling but as far as I'm aware there's still no sign yet of the 1 x UK and 3 x USMC F-35B having even started the first leg of their trans-atlantic flight over for RIAT, and as of yesterday they have 'booked' the Sea Vixen to perform the flypast biggrin (just as a reminder to when the FAA existed)
The manderians at MOD must be getting very twitchy about whether the F-35B will make it for the big show at RIAT/Farnborough now which will really look good - not.
All this money being spunked down the drain over nearly 20 years and as yet they still can't make a simple trip across the pond. They would have been better off flying them onto a US carrier a couple of weeks ago and flying them off again off Pompy harbour. Would have been more in keeping with what they are suppossed to be used for (if they weren't owned by the RAF of course wink)

I don't imagine it's a real one, but I honestly don't know.
Not a real one.

I hope they've tied it down properly, don't want that making a sudden take off when the wind gets up hehe

They could use some of the stuff the RAF used to put in the noses of their F.3 Tonkas hehe

Tomorrow is a 'naming ceremony' so will probably be just 'I name this ship HMS Me' and smash a bottle on the side.

Ship 1 is due to be floated out of the dock later this month but will stay at Rosyth to complete the fitting out.

I think it could be a couple of years before she arrives in Portsmouth.

However, there are a few posters on here that are close to/working on the project so they may have more accurate info.

Yep, thats pretty much right. However, I wouldnt expect her to leave Rosyth until late 2017 at the earliest.

And also in the '60's, inside the double hull of Ark Royal in some areas.
