HMS Queen Elizabeth
Discussion
Situation as of late yesterday afternoon USA time.

I can't see how they can make Farnborough now as they need to do the validation display for Farnborough this week, so unless that 2 day maintainence turn-a-round is waived they'll get here too late, even if they leave today US time.
They'd still be pushing it for RIAT display practice on Friday as well as a Farnborough validation display same day?
I suspect if a go decision hasn't come by end of today US time, it won't be happening.
I don't know why (I can guess though ) they didn't sort out a proper fly-on, sail-over, fly-off exercise via a US carrier/LHD given that's the whole point of buying this a/c.
At least they would have been 'here' despite the flight embargo being given while en-route.

Perhaps given CMD's lack of craven fawning recently the UK has found its way onto the ITAR naughty list and been banned from having such wondrous hardware.
It shouldn't be funny, but you definitely get a for that one.Mrtee, your friend is sort of right, but as aeropilot says they are currently having a few issues departing the USA.

All that deck space does look like overkill for VTOL (yes, I appreciate it allows for quicker turnaround and more capacity).
VTOL isn't what it's been designed for - as it's not envisaged to be used operationally.Op usage is intended to be STORVL, which is Short Take Off (via ski ramp) Rolling Vertical Landing.

I take it they are failing to proceed, despite having Rolls Royce wafty fan things.
If they've gone for the R-R 'power-by-the-hour' contract, perhaps they've run out of hours http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/axing-f-35s-alter...
