This picture was taken a few days ago showing an unidentified aircraft being transported by truck on it's way to Tianjin.

The interesting fact is, if it is just a mockup for display, then why the heavy security?

Even the J-10 does not receive such an escort when it is being transported for overhaul.

It could be a ruse for misinformation, or a distraction while the real one goes another way.

indeed... or it could be viral "marketing".

The same way the j-20 pictures were "leaked" when the US defence secretary was in China visiting.

Looks like a full-scale mock-up of someones design.

Some other forums are suggesting the outlines are very similar to some models displayed by SAC last year.

Mock-up is missing wing trailing edge moveables and horizontal and vertical tail surfaces.

You'd think a country with all the resources of the People's Republic of China could move an apparently secret aircraft from one place to another without having to leave it on the back of a lorry in a retail park in broad daylight. hehe

So that is actually the F-35, isn't it? It even has the little door in the top for the lift fan. It's a good job that according to the DoD all of that data they stole about the F-35 wasn't of any use...

Well they weren't going to admit that China had stolen all the goof stuff, were they?
You would have thought they would be clever enough to realise they were going to build an unlicensed copy, wouldn't you? That is what they do with everything else after all...

It's not a copy, it's a "Homage". An aircraft in the style of an F-35 but without the Lockheed Martin branding. The watch forum is full of people buying these dodgy Chinese looky likey copies. hehe

There are quite a few similarities to the F-35 in that model.

Hopefully the saving grace is that the Chinese don't know the material specs for the materials/coatings/paint.

It suggests to me that this will be China's next light attack/strike aircraft.

That means that they have a new fighter aircraft (J-10 rumoured to be heavily based on the Lavi), a new multi-role aircraft (J-11B copy of the Su-27) and a new air-superiority aircraft (J-20 seemingly original with biases to various aircraft).

I see them needing a new heavy strike fighter along the lines of the F-15E or the Fullback, and that should see them sorted for a generation in terms of aircraft design.

You'll also note the UAV on the poster in the background of the picture I added.....not dissimilar to the Herti....

That would be the JH-7B then.

The upgraded and "stealthed" successor to the current JH-7A fighter bomber

When they stole the data from DoD, I wonder if they checked how many engines it had? smile

A drawing/overlay

This was a post on CD two weeks ago. It was ridiculed at the time. Now people are not so sure.

"2 WS-13, 8300 x 2, internal bomb bay, 4 PL-15, dsi, 17m length, MTOW 25 ton, max fuel load(?) 7 ton, first flight in August, first prototype finished, going to test flight center."

Another bit of information quoted from another forum...

"If huitong's information is right regarding the engines of the F60 being the upgraded WS-13B that has 6000kgf dry and 9500kgf afterburner, the F60 has good change to feature supercruise then. Converting the kgf to lbf gives us 13,227lbf dry and 20943lbf wet thrust, which are pretty much the performance values quoted for the EJ200 engine used on the Eurofighter, which features Mach 1.1-1.5 supercruise."

They know their engines aren't up to scratch for the missions/reliability profiles in mind!

It's not the design of the engines... it's the supply chain.

I believe they were having problems with quality of parts not being of a consistent nature and meaning the engines could not meet their target service life.

These problems have supposedly been addressed.

Model aircraft engines indeed tend not to be overly reliable.

Since china just reverse engineer things and then slap a funny looking name on them, I'm sure the design is fine. It's guessing the materials that have been used by the prototype item that is difficult.

Copying stuff is a cheap and quick way to advance - but it also means you're always at least one step behind the competition.

What might make the difference is that China might be able to crank out 100 poor copies in the time the West can make one good original - and numbers matter.
