According to a PPRUNE witness flew into the floor pulling through from inverted!!! (Don't hang me I'm just the messenger)
Very lucky to get away with it if he did!
Get well soon!

Is that a Gnat in the foreground? Presumably a stationary exhibit as the red arrows were based there until 1976.. and only flying ones are at North Weald I think.
Anyway, tiny bit more info on pprune http://www.pprune.org/private-flying/490215-bronco...

Apparently he had been at RIAT for the weekend, in the Cold War display area, parked close to the Vulcan.
Local rag here said he had not long before flown out of Fairford heading back to his home base at Kemble so I guess he was doing what he has probably done hundreds of times before.
Accidents do happen & as I wasn't there I have no wish to comment on what happened. All I will say is that I hope the pilot makes a quick & full recovery from his injuries.

Linked from the Flyer Forum:
Overhead shot of the crash site
Given the distance travelled from the initial impact point to where it came to rest, compared to the distance from the public areas, I think this could have been a hell of a lot worse.

They did have a flying F Gnat when I was last up there 5 years ago and used by http://www.deltajets.com/. Delta are no more though.Edited by Marlin45 on Thursday 12th July 11:48

Looking at the contact marks, the collapse of the belly fuel tank on impact may have helped save the pilots life. I know some heli's have their seats mounted on "Coke Can" type devices that deform on impact taking the "sting" out of it for the crew, I'd guess the drop tank inadvertantly performed a similar task here. A "crumple zone" is the best description. Hope the old boy pulls through!
