I've not had a boat for 14 years, but for some reason the bug has bitten again! Last time round I was an early adoptor and I had a Sea Ray 230 with a Mercruiser 4.3 converted to LPG. The experience was disastrous, with the boat listing to one side and worst of all discovering that different fuel docks had different LPG connectors. Luckily I found all this out before I had paid for all the installation, and told them to remove the it. Which they eventually did.

So now in 2012 the question is this, I've seen that there are still retail LPG installations at places like Sparkes on Hayling, but is the conversion really viable, in terms of availability, practicality and safety? If you do 50 hours running a year I'm sure the installation will pay for itself in a couple of seasons, but are the connectors standard across the UK or even Europe, do the engines last the same, basically have they sorted all the issues I suffered when marine LPG was first introduced.

I'd be interested to hear other people's experiences and recommendations. Thanks in advance.

I have diesel LPG injection. I use a small tank that is removeable using a dry break connector. This is mounted in the car and filled at a normal petrol/lpg station.
The other way is to have a large tank in your car to fill and then buy a pump to pump it into the boat. I suspect that petrol station LPG is a lot cheaper than marina
