My late father in law was in the Fleet Air Arm between 1948 and 1955 and through Mother in Law we have requested and received a copy of his service record.

This consists of a two page printed form filled out in handwriting.

Some of the information is easy to work out such as "Ship in which Serving" which names the ship or shore establishment he was serving in and the period of time, but some of the unit acronyms from the 50's such as CAC and NARIU don't get any meaningful hits as websearches.

The other stuff obviously tells a tale, but since we don't understand how to "translate" it we don't understand what it means.

Can anybody explain what a "List No." is ? Amongst others there are references like 5F2(6)/77 and 12 2/139 - what do these mean ?

In the column "Rating and Discharge" what would N.A.2. or ORD III and N.A.I.M.(O)(B) mean ?

Any help from ex RN or FAA types who can help us decipher this lot would be very gratefully received.

Cheers

Jon

My father was in the FAA in the 1950's - can you scan the document and email it to me - I'll get him to translate it.
