There used to be a Mosquito hangered at Booker about 20 years ago. I wonder where that went?

Damn. The only airfares up to Auckland that day are eye-wateringly expensive.

I'm hoping that it'll be at another major airshow in Jan next year (http://www.wings.org.nz/), which I shall certainly be attending...

It was nearer 30 years ago now wink

It was the ex-Strathallen Collection one bought by US collector Kermit Weeks, and it spent a year or so at Booker being prepared for it's ferry flight across the Atlantic to Miami in 1986.
It last flew in about 1992.

Brilliant news, I just wish I'd ever get to see it fly. I've always thought the Mossie was one of the best looking aircraft ever.

You may.

There are strong rumours from those close to the owner to the effect that Jerry wishes to bring it to the UK/Europe for some displays at some point.

Whether this does happens and when is another matter.

Crikey your right, time flies. I just checked my log books because I started flying there in May '87 and it was Oct '87 it departed but as you say a long time ago... shame it's grounded frown

- Restored Auchtreader, flown to Booker, Dec. 21, 1984.
- Ferried from Booker, UK to Tamiami, Oct. 1987.

It might appear here, it's going to the Fighter Factory in Virginia USA so it'll be closer to the UK than New Zealand to ship across for special events.

I was at RAF Goose Bay with 14 Sqn on detachment when it staged through, fabulous thing. A few years before I had the distinction of marshalling the BAe one in at RAF Marham for an airday, those big props are a tad intimidating!

Remains of colonial spirit. They're more direct; they just get on and do stuff rather than faff about talking about it.

We don't have any that can be restored to flying condition, they are all already in museums as static examples and we only have 8. We have done it twice, one crashed and one was sold to the USA where it doesn't fly. Canada and Aus/NZ have more unrestored examples around that can be worked on at an early enough restoration stage for completion to flying condition.

Because Glynn Powell invested thousands of hours of his time over 15 years paintakingly building from scratch the moulds required to make the complex shape of the wooden fuselage, as it was the only way he was going to be able to rebuild his own Mosquito project.

Avpecs have taken things to the next level by using one of Glynn's new build fuselages and building a wing jig and effectively building from sratch a Mossie for Jerry Yagen's Fighter Factory collection.

The skills set now in NZ built up over the past 20 years means that a scratch build Mossie will only happen from a kit made in NZ.
