Surely there's some sort of hand drill flexible attachment. for this sort of thing?
I'm thinking about it. And I recon there's a market for them in this job.
Think speedo type drive with a short drill on the end. Basically a bloody long easyout :S
I think it needs a very bendy rod with a pigs willy thing on the end, like Fishtiga posted.
Or something with a cutter like a food liquidiser.
I even considered using the flexible drive on my Dremmel to cut up whatever it is, but I think it's just going to wrap itself up.
I managed to get the springy drain rod thing in so tight, that I can't get it back out, so I've had to cut it off when I cut the pipe.
I bought another longer one, and have tried it from the other end, but still no joy.

I think the only option left is to cut the hose ends off close, and seal them up with expanding foam, and then try to run a new pipe through a different route.
It makes my piss boil, as it's so bloody unessesary !

I also had quite a few "discussions" with the yard during the build about the pipe routing, but the Chinese are so bloody difficult to deal with outside of their box.
They smile at you while they're lying to you. shoot

sorry mick but it's a fail on the rant from me.

you have a job that most on here would give their eye teeth for onboard boats we would give more than that to be able to own and run. and here you are moaning about a situation we can only dream of [teenage partying onboard our own yacht] all because someone's got the painters in.

Mick, every good boat carries the ideal tools for this problem, you're just not thinking it through.

I would advise trying the red rocket flare first before going for the very pistol. wink

Stick some engine oil or something down there and then leave it for a few days.

I service mountain bike suspension as a job and I Had a pair of forks in for a service once where the owner had decided to use a rolled up condom as a bottom out bumper, the lubricating oil (7.5wt) ruined the condom and it just disintegrated.

Might ruin your loo system entirely but it'll get rid of the condom at least!

Literally.....

What's so hard to understand? when some one (Me) says, "If you haven't eaten it first, it doesn't go down a marine vac toilet"
"Marine grade toilet paper accepted".
I bet you have never had the joy of holding your breath underwater, over the side of a yacht, picking a tampon out of a sea water valve with a piece of wire coat-hanger, surrounded by watery poop and pee, because some stupid cow is too stupid to understand "If you haven't eaten it first, it doesn't go down a marine toilet"?

hurl

And I'd like to meet the clown who decided to install a slitted outlet sea valve instead of a standard round one!!!!!

Ah the good old Blakes seacock smile How many times have I had to wallop one of those to get it unsiezed !
After 18 years in the business there isn't much I haven't had to do, but I don't remember having to swim in it. Although I have occaisionaly rolled in it, and had to dive in some pretty disgusting places. (the river in Butterworth Malaysia springs to mind, with a breadnife to cut away a rope we picked up on the way past Penang. I couldn't see my hand in front of my face!)
I don my cap to you Sir ! bow

Motovator, it's a good idea, but I would probably end up using it on the person that caused me the grief ! A sort of enforced Dawinism smile

Slinky, if only it was just a Condom !
This morning I managed to get out a piece of what seems to be baby wipe.
So it could be some of those.
I wish I knew of something that would break these things down.

Pretty scary when you think of how many of these things are in the world, and not breaking down !

I think I'll have a break today, and fix the tender they broke jumping it over the wake.....

I'm still trying to work out which part of my job people are willing to give their "eye teeth" for ?

Fill a bucket with gallon of water (less if it's a small head) and add 500ml of liquid bleach and 250gms of soap powder. Give it a good stir and pour it in until it's halfway up the bowl. Leave it 15 minutes and start poking. The reaction between the bleach and soap powder breaks down the tampon. Might need a couple of goes but it does it eventually.

Thanks Mate !
I'll give it a go in the morning.

I had some realy nasty stuff down there called "Melt" ! I accidentaly splashed a bit on my skin, and bloody hell was it hot ! Immediate blister !

I'll put a bit of your magic mix down the pipe, and seal the end up. As I've resigned to the fact they will do without this head for the next trip.
There're 7 others they can use.

Does your stuff work with baby wipes ? I'm thinking it could be those, as I managed to get one out, but there's more, and it's solid.

By comparison, today was a good day smile Been tinkering in the garage, fixing up the broken tender.
Replaced all the Teleflex stuff, including the steering box, but ended up re-locating some switches and breakers, as the new steering box was slightly larger, and it fouled the back of the breakers.
So I've had a new engraved panel made, and changed the orientation of the switches and breakers to clear the back of the steering box.

Tinkering in the garage....therapy smile

Now all I need is the new motor for the buggered up crane, so I can get the tender on board. That was burnt out at the end of the last trip too. rolleyes

They should have called the boat "Crash Test Dummies" ! hehe

One in each cabin, a His & Hers in the master, + a day head.
They soon add up.
She's 27m.
Just M'self and a deck hand run her. But the Boss doesn't want us on board when they're out.
So we do the deliveries, pick her up from wherever she's been "dumped", do the damage control, and deliver her to wherever they want to continue the destruction.
My phone doesn't stop, and I'm often jumping on a plane to go sort out some disaster or other.
After 10 years, I'm losing the will to live. hehe

Yes, all the Teleflex boxes are now a different sizes and shaft lengths and it's a real pain.

As for letting the Boss loose without crew, that's downright alarming. I once went on my hols, leaving the Boss and his wife alone in the marina on the 25m. Every morning there was a phonecall at 6am prompt asking stupid questions. Never again!

Oh, they were Belgians. That may explain some things.

It seems to break down most stuff like that but tampons are its speciality as it breaks up the cotton content quite well. Don't ask me how I know! smile

Great, thanks again. Just brought the tender back to the marina this morning, and picked up some new vac pipe while I was collecting it from our storage.
First thing tomorrow I'll replace the bit I cut out, do as you suggest, and leave it untill they come back a week later.
Going to put my feet up in front of the telly for a couple of hours now.. smile

Squeaky clean Singapore empties raw sewage into the sea near Changi, or it did do 20 years ago, and I had to leap into that once or twice for emergency yacht repairs.

We had a sewer pipe block in our house in the UK, because of baby wipes. It says on the packet that they are flushable, but the poor guy who was up to his elbows in our raw sewage informed us most strongly that definitely they were not and should never go down any toilet. I assumed they are paper, and will break down easily, but he says they stick to each other like glue, and build up on bends inside pipework.

Luckily we had Homecare insurance. Unlucky for the engineer it was a bank holiday Monday, and he was on call, and he was hoping to be at home watching some match or other on TV with his mates. I gave him £20 to have a beer on the way home. biggrin

How about a drain unblocker tool like this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=drain+rods&...

Alternatively, can you dry the pipe & blockage out. Since whatever is down there swells when wet if you can dry it out (time and/or hot air) it may shrink when dry or tear & come out in bits.

Sounds to me you just complain too much, and don't get on with your job.
Perhaps it's time you just got on with the job, and fixed the pipes, like that's part of your job.

That's what I've been using, only substantialy heavier. It straigtened out I pulled so hard.

I was going to suggest a plank with a hole in it over the side but I presume you have quite a posh boat for posh persons. I'm sure it was mentioned above but there is that stuff that is like sulphuric acid (Maybe it is) that you dump down the loo and let it sit for a day or so but I'm not sure about plastic pipes.

How people treat loos does amaze me even after centuries of working at festivals. Do they treat them this way at home?
