My dad was stationed at Scampton and on duty the night 3 their Lincolns on exercise were diverted to Valley(fog at Scampton),2 landed safley RF511 didn't. http://www.peakdistrictaircrashes.co.uk/pages/wale...Recently by pure coincidence my father overheard a conversation regarding Valley in the '50's,it turns out the gentleman speaking had been in the control tower the night of the crash.

Tragic that someone can complete 50 sorties in wartime and then fly into a hill in peacetime.
Navigation error, the old reciprocal heading fail.
