Penlee lifeboat loss 31 years ago today

First time I have seen this on tv for years, I always watch it on Youtube on the date it happened. All these years have passed and I still struggle to listen to the radio calls from Trev and Nigel.
Did anyone see the Saving Lives at Sea special about WW2 & the RNLI tonight? It was a brilliant show and my friend Elaine talks about a Penlee rescue during the war.
Dermot came across as a true supporter as well. It will be on the iplayer tomorrow if you missed it.

I watched it. Definitely better than I was expecting, by a long way. Dermot is slowly going up in my estimations as he gets some years under his belt. I suspect he was keeping emotions under control. The latest edition of the RNLI members magazine has been a good read on the 200 year anniversary.
I watched the Cruel Sea -Penlee documentary again last night and my emotions were running down my cheeks again at the end .
I shall watch the RNLI WW2 programme later on catch up .
Living on the coast with a Lifeboat Station on the seafront ( we had more than one in the past ) the RNLI is never far from the thoughts of local people.
My dear old dad even went out on a few shouts when he was much younger, something he only told us about towards the very end of his life .
Watching them launch even with the modern inshore boats and submersible tractors makes me shudder in rough weather.
