What's the longest scheduled airline flight?

The Brisbane stop is the scheduled norm due to range limitations of the 744ER. I think what you're referring to is the few times it hasn't made it to Brisbane and has had to stop in either Noumea or Auckland.
When the SIA SIN-LAX AND EWR-SIN stops this year Sydney to dallas will indeed be the worlds longest. Although delta Atlanta to joburg(772LR) will be the longest that operates in both directions.

I thought it could get back....Oh well, I don't reckon it should count if it can't go both directions!!When the SIA SIN-LAX AND EWR-SIN stops this year Sydney to dallas will indeed be the worlds longest. Although delta Atlanta to joburg(772LR) will be the longest that operates in both directions.

I took the Newark-Singapore flight a few years ago. It doesn't always go over the North Pole, on mine it went over the UK not a million miles from where I lived. The thought that I had just done a transatlantic with another 14 hours to go wasn't a nice one, even in business it was the longest 20+ hours (time from boarding to deplaning) I can remember - never again.
I did Newark to Hawaii stopping in California some place. Total time was about 12 hours and no food was served on either plane. The lay over gave just enough time to run to Burger King and jump on the next plane. We were the only ones that made the trip to BK and I'm sure we nearly lost our lives that day as all the other starving passengers had to sit there as the smell of burgers recycled in the air. I don't think there is anything more antisocial than bringing fast food on to a plane that doesn't serve food and everyone else has been stuck on another plane for 6 hours that didn't serve food either. I normally hate BK but that day it was like fine dining.
Now if I go to Hawaii I do it in one go. To me it's either 1 long plane journey or 2 long plane journeys when it gets to these durations.

According to Wikepedia:-
Newark to Singapore Singapore Airlines SQ 21 15,345km (9,535 miles ) 8,285 nautical miles
18 hr 50 min Airbus A340-500
To be canceled on 23 November 2013
I thought I read somewhere that Singapore to LAX is a shorter flight in miles bit can take longer in time because of the headwinds crossing the Pacific.Newark to Singapore Singapore Airlines SQ 21 15,345km (9,535 miles ) 8,285 nautical miles

The trouble with the Airbus A340-500 is that it an old thirsty plane which doesn't go very fast. Don't think they can make either route pay.

We had one of the Singapore flights on the frequency the other day over Belgium (unusual, I think it had been pushed further south to take advantage of the wind) - Newark (or somewhere Eastern seaboard) to Singapore. We looked in the system and the flight time was somewhere over 19hrs!
Poor buggers.
Looking at some of the maps. It looks like it goes eastbound Singapore over the Pacific to Newark and then takes off Eastbound again over the Atlantic to get back to Singapore. Didn't think of that. Poor buggers.
I do the Sydney to Dallas on QF twice a year, it's a pig of a trip
But on a cheery note my job means QF looks after me as I'm Director of Procurement and we spend over 10mil a year with them (they're frightened that blonde blokes lot will get their claws into us).
Lotsa perks too but that's another thread

As I live in Singapore, I quite fancy making the trip before it finishes. A long weekend in NYC sounded pretty good ! Downside is the price. Just been on SIA to check availability. Business Class only flight - yours sir for Sing $12,577 return (c. £6,300). Maybe they'll do some specials just as it finishes. Always kicked myself for never getting on those cheap flights to NYC on Concorde just as it came to be taken out of service.

I do like BA's Arrivals lounge at T5 for Business (Club) Class for morning arrivals: it's great to have a shower and then have a bite to eat whilst reading the paper. It makes me feel fit and fresh again for the day ahead. Unfortunately you don't usually get the same comforts when you land at your outbound destination.
Not sure now, but didn't used to be showere in Gatwick. The place for showers is Schipol, can't beat them.Longest I've done was down to Perth via Singapore Airlines, back in 2000.
First leg was a 7474-400, with a plane change to a 777 in Singapore.
Excellent airline, although the fact that I was "down the back" whilst my boss was sat in Business didn't help!
Would not have minded, but we didn't even pay for the tickets! ( was working for an airline at the time)

No doubt Man City Airlines and Barcelona Airlines will be along shortly.
