jeez, i think i'd honestly cack my pants.
think the worst i was ever in was a force 10, but that was on a bloody big ferry on route from portsmouth to bilbao. i was ok, but wouldn't have fancied it much stormier.
we used that boat alot with the lorries, so i got to know some of the crew. 1 of the barman was reassuring me by saying the only time you need to be concerned is when the crew start putting their life jackets on smile
made sense i guess.
i asked if he had ever had to do it, and he said just once, on a new years eve cruise.
Fair weather small trawlers can take the the short waves keep the bow into it.

Alex Thomson walks up the mast of Hugo Boss.

Makes a nice change from doing the keel.

Trying to work out how he's secured on. He must be, because when the boat comes upright he's hanging on something, but I can't see anything as he runs up the mast.

Bloody impressive either way, that's a big mast!

They claim in that video that he jammed himself between the mast and sail. Not actually possible.

There is also a very brief shot as he runs up the mast where you can see what looks like a harness D ring thing attached to him

Got a pair of Kiekhaefer Big Block V8s in the workshop from the '60s. Carl Kiekhaefer was the founder of Mercruiser/Mercury engines and raced in the original Donzi Offshore.

I think there are only about a dozen original motors left, the last parts were bought from a boatshed in Iraq. If anyone knows of some spares, let me know.

The sound is quite outstanding, open pipes just howling.

From that article

In 1927 he briefly worked as a draftsman by Evinrude Motors before being fired for "...frequent, disquieting and brazenly insubordinate arguments concerning design and product development...".[1]

I like him.

Sadly Mike Fiore, a chap I used read about as a lad, has crashed his Outerlimits Cat at speed. A sad loss of a fine and humorous Bloke's bloke.

looking at the other version of the video it's some sort of thankyou to a bloke called Jack, who i presume is Jack Cowin the owner.
