Hms illustrious
Discussion
It looks like HMS Illustrious, the longest serving aircraft carrier in RN history and the last surviving Tyne-built aircraft carrier was put on the sand at Alliaga at around half-nine UK time.
13893 Days afloat.
When I was 11 and she left the Tyne 3-months ahead of schedule because of the Falklands War the crew tied a yellow banner to her port side on the flight deck catwalk.
It read:
"Well done Swan Hunter. Thanks for "wor Lass."
Says it all really.
