What will the Government buy if the F35 is cancelled?

Do we have a big enough gaffer tape budget to keep them airborne?
And how on earth are we going to land them on the carriers? The big question is how long before the few they are buying will actually be able to do anything useful (other than perform at airshows)

the RAF and FAA seem to have the most mature knowlege of the use of VTOL/ STOVL operations

It looks like this from War is Boring may be the clip notes from the trial. The F-35A was flying clean, with no internal stores and the F-16D was carrying two drop tanks. “Even with the limited F-16 target configuration, the F-35A remained at a distinct energy disadvantage for every engagement,” the pilot reported.
“The helmet was too large for the space inside the canopy to adequately see behind the aircraft.”

Saw that report a few days ago......hilarious really, all these years of development and expense and yet it's still not as good as one of the a/c it is supposed to replace. And the helmet thing is just staggering if true!!
I suppose the 'Dave' fanboys though will cite all sorts of technobabble about stealth and other guff and hot air, and it's really a bomb truck, not a fighter blah, blah etc.
I think they need to rename it the F-35 Greece, as the similarity of continually throwing money into a bottomless pit because the 'political project' mustn't be seen to fail is ironically similar.

If you read the full report rather than the excepts quoted by a blog known to be more than a somewhatbiased you will notice that
a) it is unclassified, which would strike anyone as odd for a report identifying vulnerabilities in a major defence programme
b) the trial was about identifying where the control laws had to be altered to extend the flight envelope so the performance demonstrated is not the final envelope but a step along the way to getting the correct performance. This is a completely different model than traditionally because of the inherently unstable nature of the aircraft
b of course explains a
The final report on the performance would be classified

Remember those ruski super tanks of a couple of months ago?
..Russia could be working on a low-observable, F-35-hunting unmanned air vehicle that uses deeply-integrated electronic warfare systems to stay hidden from radars. The tip-off comes from electronic systems producer KRET, which has a curious UAV model on display at the MAKS air show in Moscow.
According to the company’s first deputy chief executive officer Vladimir Mikheev, this aircraft model is more than just a sleek promotional display – it is an advanced military UAV being developed by the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC)...

Not much good having an "invisible plane" if the pilot can't turn their head to utilise it...Pesty said:
Brazil have just bought oVer 4 billion worth of JAS-39 Gripens
What's wrong with them?
If you mean - what's wrong with them, that we aren't buying them instead of F-35.....?What's wrong with them?
If so, its the small matter of being able to operate them off a floating runway being the prime reason
