)Clearly not on, against the law, breaching trust etc, but does the article suggest they may not have actually engaged in full on sex? Or is it just worded a bit oddly. Suggests some 'heavy petting' and spending the night 'half clothed'.
What goes through the teacher's head in these cases? Just unfathomable how they think it can possibly end well.

It's a hard one to call: Yes, she shouldn't have done it: Yes, she's done it from a position of trust: Yes, getting fired is well deserved.
On the other hand, she'll probably never be able to make a life for herself in that community after appearing in the Record, her children and ex-husband will be humiliated, she'll be on the sex offenders register, and now she's going to jail. It's slightly disingenuous to cast the boy as an innocent abroad when he waives his anonymity and says "I feel sorry for her and her family. I think I'm a wee bit to blame because I went along with it." 15 year old boys will happily shag anything that moves; they're like a walking hard on with acne and angst attached.
Maybe the tabloid fetish for this sort of thing is resulting in a disproportionate punishment?
I'd add that when I was at school something similar (allegedly) happened with a NQT and a male pupil. He was horrendously badly damaged by it; wanting to tell all his mates how he'd lost his virginity; wanting to brag about having shagged a hot teacher; but not wanting to get her sacked and jailed. The torture of having to keep his mouth shut almost killed him.
I don't know if she's still teaching, but his life through uni didn't seem to have been badly affected by his experiences.

At least he sounds adult enough to care about how it would affect others lives. Can someone explain to me why its almost acceptable or at least understandable when its a female teacher and male pupil, but not the other way around? I know male teacher male pupil is also seen as terrible, but what about female teacher female pupil? Are their any examples of that? It just seems there's different views and harshness of sentences for what is essentially the same illegality.

In a nutshell. Courts are sexist places*. An adult male is always far more guilty than an adult female. And on a related point courts believe that a teenage girl would only do something illegal if groomed/forced to. Whereas a teenage boy commits crime of his own free will. Which is plainly b
ks. - And even if you remove cases like this. A woman will always get a more lenient sentence than the equivalent man in the same sitation. And how often do we see courts award custody to the woman in a divorce regardless of who is the more fit parent.

I think that these cases are "grey zones" and need a flexible approach instead of blanket laws. There need to be the psych evaluation of the "victim" to determin harm, if any. Me, at 16 I would have thought all my Xmasses came at once if a hot teacher seduced me, you would have had to brainwash and electroshock me to make me feel otherwise.
With females getting less time for statutory rape, I think it all comes down that even a 15 yearl old male is stronger then an adult femal and there can be no question of physical coercion.

I'd imagine there's a large number of 16 year olds that would rather have a fit 16 year old they can actually date than someone twice their age they can hook up with in a park when no one is looking.
And as this has turned out - if it's something this kid looks back on with pride/bragging rights I'd suggest he moves in a social circle that's as lacking as his girlfriend choices!
