A seriously scary video. Sounds like he was showing off to his friends at the drag strip by doing a low fly past. Looks like he was too busy looking to see if anyone on the ground was watching him, rather than flying the plane. Not clever. I'm amazed that the F/O survived! Unfortunately the Captain and the medic on board weren't so lucky.

Oops.

Interesting to see that the first car to respond was one of the hot rods.

Astonishing that anyone survived.

I think you tend to turn in the direction you're looking in.

Surely there must have been a problem with the plane? I don't understand what manoeuvre could be attempted that low, with hills directly ahead, that would involve a roll.

You don't understand wing drop at the stall?

He seemed to have some speed on but maybe it's a trick of perspective.

Seeing people flying like that in passenger aircraft really bugs me.

Stall?? He did that 1/4 mile in about 3 seconds. He should have got a prize.

And that means WHAT exactly?

You think a stall means there is no momentum?

You can only give an aircraft so much rudder before it starts to fall towards earth which I presume is what GinettaGirl is getting at?

It means it was sort of a joke, (that's a kind of humorous comment BTW).

What I saw was the aircraft low, in a steep left bank, initially looked like a lot of right rudder, probably travelling in excess of 200kts.

Feel free to talk us through it smile

Remember that B-52 crash a few tears ago? He put the aircraft in such a steep turn that it just dropped out of the sky. This looks a bit like a permutation of that type of accident.

That B52 crash was a case study at a flight safety course I did a few years back, sadly it was a long time coming and entirely avoidable. There's other videos of him on the internet doing low fly pasts etc.

Back OT stall speed increases with G but not sure if that's what caused this one frown

FWIW I agree with Simpo - he was probably distracted or just stopped concentrating on avoiding the ground and flew into it. I've done exactly the same thing dozens of times (only with model aircraft hehe)

Videos like this fascinate me with respect to the human response. How different people react; some instantly sprinting over or driving over to help, others sheilding themselves from it and almost ignoring it.

The phrase I like and which always seems accurate is 'ran out of sky'.

Not everyone is as clever as you. Luckily, not everyone is blessed with your keyboard manners.
