Canadian site says...

Sunday August 17 Combined Ops Show - both Lancasters.
http://www.combinedops.co.uk Headcorn, Kent

BBMF site make no mention of this event. Anyone know for sure ?
Its definetly at combined ops. We have a display of armoured vehicles there and it was confirmed to us a couple of months back that both aircraft will be displaying in our briefing.

Got one biggrin
Out of curiosity how much were the tickets.

For. Me I don't see the fascination in it as just Jane will be on the ground. Think they're trying to sell it on the noise (clearly it's worked) but they can do that at Goodwood with 4 spitfires running at the same time tongue out

£20, They're selling on the fact that 3 Lancaster will be under power together, something that hasnt happened since the 1950's and won't happen again. And yes on the magical sound of 12 Merlins powering heavies

Btw, 4 Spitfires is 4 Merlins, 3 Lancs is 12, for a 1 off I'm happy to travel and so is a friend who is coming from south France to see this

what i meant was the 2 lancs are flying over goodwood have a 4 ship of spitfires and boom theres the same noise if you close your eyes tongue out (of course we cant allow any of them griffon powered spits to join the party!)

£20 isnt as much as I thought they would charge which when its around £10 to get in on a normal day. im still not sold on the concept, if it was airworthy i'd be there but to have an aircraft groud taxi as 2 fly overhead just doesnt work for me but each to their own I guess.

Agreed, knowing the Canadian Lancaster was coming over they should have pulled their fingers out and got it in the air. wink

Shame they don't have a runway for the 2 to land. Would be a hell of a sight, 3 Lancs together side by side engines running.

According to their web site that have a grass/concrete runway. Isn't it long enough for the Lancaster?

Sadly not, Heavies like the Lanc need longer runways than the smaller fighters and modern single engine planes

Ah, misunderstood where you were coming from. I needed an excuse to make the trip, now I'm up there twice in a month (Tour de France and this)

Agreed, no Griffons! wink

Yup. Not long enough. Part of the project plan and funds required to get JJ flying again also includes having to extent the runway to a suitable length to enable it to actually take off and land.

Although you have the problem of buildings in the way.

An update got released last week by BBMF http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/news/index.cfm?storyid=...

A reminder from when I was at Coningsby for the first flight of the Vulcan, it went crazy around the local area with traffic getting gridlocked. So I would advise against travelling up for the arrival of the Canadian Lancaster.

I'm heading up, or at least partway the day beforehand, so I can be parked early. I am expecting havoc on the roads that day, and the car will be prepped ready

Did I see this lanc flying low over St. Albans heading aprox north east around mid-afternnon yesterday (Sunday 20-07-14).

Very very cool sight, I had a camera close but was too busy waving like a loon as i could see the outline of people in the cockpit as it was that low.

EDIT: to add date.

Good luck with that hopefully you get close, although myself I can't see the fascination until both are airborne together. Keep an eye on news channels close to the date as currently the police are looking at their options in terms of traffic management and road closures. I would suggest a bike in the car and park a few miles away. If you get close I'll be the gent in black with a beard doing PR work for the flight.

Sadly for my passenger, a bike trip isn't on the cards, else I would be doing so.

I live in Essex, and I realise this is a busy time for the flight, but if you get any major traffic details would you be able to post them up?
I will certainly look out for you on the day, will you be at any other airshows?

I'll try to keep everyone informed of any updates as I get them. I'll also create a new post this week detailing all BBMF's flying on a weekly basis. Whilst it is available online a lot of people will probably forget to check.

I'll be at Eastbourne airshow and Bournemouth before my last time assisting the flight at Lincolnshire lancasters member day in September.

Sorry to hijack, but do you know why the BBMF cancelled fri/sat at Farnborough?
I tweeted BBMF and Farnborough, but no response from either frown
