Hadn't thought of those, they're here for a month, and plenty of airshows on, Duxfords weekend show in September fits in, and would be great to have them based there for the weekend, and watch a bomber take off (2xLanc, B17, B24 etc) Be a good parting for them

This is brilliant news, and certainly one I don't want to miss. I'm trying to think of airshows throughout August and the first ones that spring to mind is Eastbourne & Bournemouth? Maybe hopeful but it would be great!
As Eastbourne Airbourne starts on the 14th, I'm guessing that it could be the first airshow it goes to.

Unless Collings Foundation or CAF are bringing a B-24 over from the USA you won't be seeing one of those there......

Have you seen the prices for the 75 passenger rides available over here? £3.5k for a normal flight, £5k to be in the cockpit. That's for a 30min flight, at least according to what I read elsewhere.

If I had the surplus cash I would jump at the chance would be interesting to sit in the back and see the world from where my Grandad did back in late 1944 onwards, although I suspect the rear turret would be a little cramped for me.

Correct.

The hope they can sell all the allocated seat flights over here though is what is funding the trip. It's why the proposed trip over that was planned several years ago was cancelled because the CAA said no to PAX flights. Due to upcoming changes in regs, the CAA are now on board with this - hence the trip over now being on.
£3.5k though is still more than 3 x times what the same flight would cost you if you undertook it over in Canada....and about 10 times more than a similar duration flight in one of the B-17's would cost in the USA.

It's nothing she wasn't designed to do, two thousand miles there and back on many a night raid as you didn't fly in a straight line to target.

What a superb initiative - both for the Goodwood Revival?

Seems a bit irresponsible to fly her all that way, imo.
Why can't she.

Lancasters and Lancastrians regularly flew long flights over oceans in their day. Both the French and the British used Lancasters as ocean patrol aircraft.

Nice thought, but Revival might just be a week or two too late, as she's coming here early part of August and only spending a month here.

Actually, I would have thought they might have come over for July rather than August, more suitable events such as Flying Legends and RIAT to attend than events in August.....?

Airbourne was my first thought when I saw the dates it would be over here.

I booked a hotel for this August's display just last week! It would be fabulous to see two Lancasters flying together...

Would be great to see them both together if I can. Shame that my Grandad isn't still alive to see them, as he was a wireless op on one in world war two and it would have made his day cry

Yes but their day was 70 years ago, and there aren't many left.
That's the difference. In WW2 if you lost one a shiny new replacement would arrive in a few days. If a Lanc goes down in the Atlantic there even won't be any bits left to hammer out and stick back together.

Little Gransden (just East of Cambridge, I think) is hoping to get the two of them: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/News/Worlds-last-t...
