Canadian Lancaster to visit the UK

I was also at Little Gransden yesterday, the timing for the arrival of the two Lancasters was perfect. Me remembering where I'd parked the car less so
The Remembrance Poem "...at the going down of the sun..." had only just finished and the crowd were completely silent when the distant throb of eight Merlin engines could be heard. Everyone turned around to see the two Lancasters coming in very low just over the distant copse. I found it immensely difficult to take photographs with such damp eyes, and I'm sure I wasn't alone.
The Vulcan was just mindblowing.

Is there a car show as well? What's the deal, do you get entry tickets if you display?
I do believe you get entry tickets if you display, although I'm sure I'll be corrected! and yep the amount of metal on display in the show fields were definatly not lacking in quality or quantity. Took quite a fancy to some poor blokes manual 94 xjr From Wings and Wheels at Henstridge Airfield on Saturday. A great freebie if you bring an interesting car along and park in the display bit.
Photos were a bit tricky as they came right from the direction of the sun quite late in the day but it gave a nice effect with the sun glistening off them.

It seemed everyone there I spoke to had a story to tell too. One chap was telling me about his days in the RAF and his very own Vulcan, and how later in years he rigged up ejector seats as new guys couldn't resist having a play believing they weren't live...one story he told was fairly scary & his subsequent call to the bosses office. Who apparently commended him!!
My Dad was displaying there and said he met loads of people with great stories too, one whose Father was killed on his first mission on a Lanc, that flew around the same time as my Great Uncle, and from the same station.
Amazing day. Great atmosphere.

Yep, quite a few people around me were moved to dab their eyes. I'm glad I had sunglasses on.I found it immensely difficult to take photographs with such damp eyes, and I'm sure I wasn't alone.

This has been posted on the shows FB group from Adam Cundick
"Lest we forget those who gave so much.
They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them."

I've seen our BoB aircraft before, and it always makes me a bit emotional.
I went to Dunsfold Wings 'n' Wheels on Saturday, with the express intent to see the pair of Lancs.
When the aircraft arrived, my friends and I were a little way away from the runway. I basically made a run for the fence, and left my friends behind!
Anyway, I was there on my own, but stood next to a chap with a big camera. As others have said, what the bloody hell is it about these aircraft that renders grown men to mush??!! After the second pass, I was in bits, massive smile on my face, but with so many tears rolling down my cheeks that my view started to get all blurry, which was annoying! I had to keep wiping my eyes.
Anyway at one point, matey with the camera next to me looked at me, and I was surprised but happy to see his eyes wet as well, haha! He smiled at me, and I just kinda blubbed "they're just so beautiful..." to which he replied in a very wobbly voice "ah yes, they are aren't they?!"
I was glad to share a weak, blubby moment with a complete stranger who also felt what I did. Kinda glad my mates didn't see me though! Composed myself before walking back!
I feel really privileged to have seen both these Lancs, plus the Spit, Hurricane, P51 and Vulcan. What an amazing day, I will never forget it

That's stunning Matt. For anyone coming to see the Canadian Lancaster at Durham Tees Valley Airport tomorrow be aware of the road diversions.
From an article in The Northern Echo:
'The A67 was closed today (Tuesday, August 26) by Darlington Borough Council for a two week resurfacing programme between the A66 Morton Palms roundabout and the Sadberge Road roundabout outside Middleton St George. The road is not expected to reopen until Friday, September 5. A 4.5mile diversion is in place along the A66 and through the village of Sadberge, before connecting with the A67 via Sadberge Road.'
I'll be there manning a trade stand, really looking forward to it!
PS. According to the schedule I've seen VERA will be arriving this afternoon...
