ME 262 Cancelled as it's u/s, F86 sold to America, and now this!

Not saying it won't come, but it's not going to help!

Ahh, isn't that just great! Non-residents taking advantage of the resident's 2 for 1 offer.

Now, when the organisers study the figures, and work out that more 2 for 1 offers were sold than there are residents, they'll pull the deal for future shows rolleyes

To be honest, I've lost interest in it now that the F35 is looking very unlikely, and the 262 has been cancelled. The trade days are better for the amount and type of flying the current stuff does, so I'll just mosey on up the canal and watch from outside. Same for the public days now, to be fair. It ain't the same since the technology pavilions stopped admitting the public at weekends. That was half the attraction for me. Nowadays it's just another flying display as far as I can see, and the Red Arrows do a lot of their forming up out my way. I can stand on a nearby motorway bridge and see them closer than I can from the crowdline wink

Any suggestions on a good place to watch the show, preferably with beer garden?

I know there's a pub at the end of the runway but I'm assuming that will be rammed but with going to RIAT, waddington, Eastbourne and Bournemouth I don't see the point in paying to see similar without being able to see the trade section.

F-35 has resumed flight ops, UK trip not affected by all reports.

The Swan is the famous one at the end of the runway, but you'll struggle to park anywhere near there on show days.

The Monkey Puzzle on Ively Road springs to mind, as it's near the airfield and has a 'beer garden' of sorts facing the right direction.

It's also got a Premier Inn and I think a Brewers Fayre restaurant, although I haven't been, so can't recommend either yeah or nay as regards quality of the food/beer.

The Tradesmans Arms and The Potters in Cove might be OK too. The Old Courthouse is currently being turned into a Tesco, and I don't think many of the others would have a great view, or they lack a beer garden, like the Alex and the Wetherspoons (Tilly Schilling) in Farnborough itself. I'm not really a 'pub man' so others might have a better knowledge of sight lines from the various hostelries in the area wink

Food and accommodation at the Monkey Puzzle are good but get in early. The display line passes right above your head but the beer garden is surrounded by trees so visibility is a bit intermittent.

Many a happy Sunday spent there getting drunk and watching planes!

I may do the swan during the week (im guessing it will be slightly quieter) and then the monkey puzzle on the weekend.

I have just noticed I should be able to go on one of the trade days due to my job (albeit having to pay for it) so may give that a go. Might be a good networking tool for my "retirement" coming up soon.

The Swan has a decking session that overlooks the airfield. However, the pup has been "gentrified" in recent years and the proprietor now charges extra for patrons to use the decking area during show week.

Probably going to cycle over from Fleet and watch from the heath area opposite the end of the runway, although I suspect it might be quite busy

F35 apparently due to do validation displays on the 7th and 8th. No ideas of times at the moment though.

That's what I will do if I can free off enough time that weekend.

I went in last year for food and drinks after a local hockey game and was impressed so if its a small fee I'd be happy to pay, any idea how much?

They usually run buses from the local train stations so I'd be inclined to try and park further out and get the train and bus in. I know this goes against the religion/morals/sensibilities of most on here but the traffic is usually an absolute nightmare that weekend.

Surprised you could see much from The Swan last year, the show was in Paris

Farnborough isn't on in the Hockey season which leads me to suspect he liked the pub and the view potential

This is true.

If you don't have a pass to use the "Limo Lane" (they still do that, right?) then pretty much all of the parking is well away from the actual site. Most of it is walkable, but a lot there depends on your personal definition of 'walking distance'. If you have any sense, you'll drive to one of the stations along the railway line, get a train a couple of stops into Farnborough, then get on the bus from there to the site entrance. There's now extra parking at Farnborough Main station as well. It's officially for 'rail users only' but wink

Indeed I liked the pub, the food wasn't bad and the view was great just a shame there wasn't many movements on the day we were there.

Unfortunately for me every time farnborough is on I'm overseas. But not this year biggrin
