We were told this at work earlier in the week (we supply the shell of the pilots helmet). Very disappointing, was looking forward to seeing it fly.

Judging by the lame displays it's put on in the USA so far, I think you'd be more disappointed if you did see it fly laugh

Still, money is no object when it comes to saving face in the political arena.

Not too impressive then? Never mind, plenty of other good stuff to see. Anyone going on the trade days?

To be fair I saw the Typhoon the first time it displayed at Farnborough, the Airbus that went up next did a far more impressive display biggrin

Updated planned airshow arrivals/ validations for you-

All of these are of course subject to change, particularly the F.35s which, even if they do make it to the UK, are unlikely to stick to their planned validation days/times....

Mon 7th -

2 x F.18 arrival
DC-10 arrival
Aerostars validation about 2.30 local
2xF.35 validation PLANNED for Monday pm, but of course this is becoming less likely by the day.
Canberra validation
Anson validation
Great War Display Team validation
Spitfire validation

Tue 8th

2 F.35 validations PLANNED in the morning
Starduster validation
2 F.35 validations PLANNED in the afternoon
Typhoon validation

Wed 9th

B787 arrival
Il-76 arrival with heli onboard

NOTAM's seem to indicate the red arrows will validate Wednesday or Thursday 13:55-14:35 and then be flying in the show Jul 18 15:25-16:05 Jul 19-20 15:55-16:35. Obviously that's the airspace closure times, the display will only be sometime within that period

Also for any of you with air-band radios, they have changed the tower frequency from previous years, tower used to be on 122.500MHz is now on 135.175MHz Ground opps may also be on 124.550Mhz.

what is validation?
Farnborough has strict flying display rules due to its proximity to the town and previous crashes back in the day, therefore all pilots and aircraft taking part in the flying display have to perform their routine in advance of the show during validation week. Its possible the red arrows will be flying on both Wednesday and Thursday as they will presumably have to validate both their fair weather and low cloud flat display routine, although Thursdays NOTAM may be a reserve day for weather. The problem with validation week though is for the most part you never know whats going up when, so its either a case of hear the noise and run outside or sitting outside the airfield bored of a lot of empty sky. Fortunately the red arrows need more airspace so the NOTAM gives us a heads up.

I'll try to put an update on all things flying, if and when I get the chance too.

hehe

Sorry... the F-18's were rubbish when they did a pretty high speed low pass down the runway in super tight formation on arrival and peeled off left in a stunning terrible timed break. So dull.

And the Extra was really bad at flipping all over the sky. I almost fell asleep when he did that thing where he hangs on his own engine power nose up then tumbles through his own smoke seemingly out of control.

The runway also looks rubbish... all dull grey tarmac an stuff right in front of me.

These next two weeks are going to be crap

better?
