This should calm the OP's fears.

It's been linked so many times on here already, I'm almost embarrassed to post it again.

Fully laden Russki Ilyushin something or other.

777 fully loaded from JFK to LHR ... felt like they were going to drive there rather than fly.
737 with 10 PAX from LBA to DUS ... felt like an aircraft carrier take off looks!
JFK, very, very long! LBA, very, very, short!

Indeed ... and pretty impressive when you rotate having only used the first third of that short runway biggrin

Used to fly in these when Yugoslavia was Yugoslavia.

They needed the whole runway, plus a bit of motorway, before they came unstuck.

We sometimes had to eject a fat woman to get airborne.

JFK ATC are more interested in noise abatement than aircraft performance. They regularly have us landing on 22L. V short for us and usually from a VOR approach offset by 8 degrees.

Ive timed the twin turbo prop Dash-8's of BMI and from brakes off to airborne is around 30 seconds.. by comparison, easyjet 319 last week was closer to 45 seconds.
The Dash seemed to accelerate a lot harder, pushing you back into the seat.
the quad engined Avro80's that swissair operate are also around the 30 second mark

It's a ratio of thrust to weight. A dash 8 will weigh half that of a a319 and so will accelerate quicker. The dash also gets airborne sooner as the prop puts a lot of high energy airflow over the wings even when it's standing still never mind moving. It's made for shorter strips.
You can only compare take off time/length with 2 identical aircraft on identical days.
Take off run required is aircraft performance specific and can't be directly compared.

Also for 99% of commercial jet departures, there'll be a de-rate on the engine thrust. Therefore an artificially long take-off roll.

I think you only need to start worrying if you seem flames and smoke from the brakes. Nice little skate on the rear brakes at the end too

You notice loooong take off rolls in Dubai. I guess the runway is huge and they don't need to cane them to get off. Departing from there to Sydney in a 380, I was nearly convinced we were driving there ;-)

Hope you feel better now.

If not, get yourself a jet pack and a hacksaw and always sit next to a door...smile

So much nicer flying helicopters.

Stop and land, rather than land and stop.
