Eventually got to spend the day (working) at RIAT today - what a great day with some superb flying.

The Turkish F18 pilot was nuts - he put on a superb show, the Typhoon was deafening & simply awesome, the Reds just seem to get better every years & the Italians closed the show.

They were absolutely awesome. A great end to a very good day.

you should have got the free RIAT app it had a list of static and flying aircraft.
It didn't have times on it and while I could understand the printed thing going out of date as aircraft pulled out etc they really should be capable of updating the app. It was pointless.

Great weather yesterday, had a very enjoyable day. The Italians made it for me, several great displays and the usual enthusiastic commentary, I still struggle to process the manoeuvrability of the Spartan (although the A400M was very impressive as well).

I still think it's a bit of a joke that you need to pay a further £12 on top of your ticket to get a running order, having done so it had little to no relation to the day anyway due to the volume of no-shows (ironically they had more than enough time for a Vulcan display)

Some lovely photo's there, looks like you were using the 120-300mm F2.8, can I ask whether you were using a monopod or similar with it and if so how you found trying to take photo's of plane high in the sky with it?

Yep 120-300mm 2.8 plus the 1.4tc (still didn't feel long enough!) with a D600 in crop mode.

I haven't got a huge amount of strength due to illness in the past but I've got used to holding it handheld all day without it bothering me too much, I don't remember any particular issues pointing it up high.

Errrr. Umm. I guess I'm a wimp. I hired the same for the weekend for my D7000 and found it to be a little too heavy to be comfortable holding all day, very cool lens though.

I was wishing I'd taken a monopod, however can't see how you'd get some of the pictures I wanted to take with it on a monopod.
