I really hope by some miracle the F35 does make it to RIAT, it was actually why I booked the tickets for this year. I know it'll be a great show anyway but just like the F22 a few years ago, that was our reason for going this time.

Ah well, can't wait for Saturday anyway as I have a feeling the various display teams are going to be amazing!

Bugger! Just saw this thread. Hadn't realised the F35 may not be at RIAT cry. The F22 display a few years ago was awesome and was really hoping the F35 would be too.

I doubt they're laughing as they won't be getting money for a display they could have done.

I'm departing for RIAT shortly so will let everyone know how it's looking.

Just as well the F-35 isn't going to be at RIAT then as you'd be really disappointed if you were expecting to see a F-22 style display from the F-35B.
It's not that type of a/c for a start, and the 'display routine' that would have been shown was little more than a few flyby's down the runway.
If you do a search on Youtube for F-35 at Yuma air display 2014, you'll see it's 'hardly worth the bother' first public display from a few months ago laugh

Rumours coming out of Fairford this morning regarding 558.

It is being said that she will be flying on Saturday & Sunday due to a last minute deal being done.

Hope so however it is just a rumour that has been going around, apparently, since late last night.

How firm? Is this just wishful thinking?

I started it on tuesday (page 2). Its got to be the obvious fall back really, even/especially given how pointed VTTS statements about not being at RIAT have been.

I've just read the press release from VTTS in may about RIAT I'm quite shocked if people react in such away and I feel it's more to say they're not going. Certainly in the last 5 years when our aircraft haven't displayed from serviceability to weather to weather enroute stopping the aircraft displaying I have always found the public to be very understanding although very disappointed.

My boss, ex RAF flight crew, is on site this morning setting up our chalet ready for tomorrow - she told me this morning that is a possibility that 558 will be making an appearance.

It is just a rumour so wh knows? 558's display schedule is free this weekend.......

Here's hoping.

Article in The Times yesterday had some guy (can't remember who) saying he expects the relevant F35s to receive some form of special dispensation and show up.

Don't bank on it.

There was a suggestion from within the USA yesterday that the USMC 'might' be able to make an independant decision to fly and 'remark' one of their F-35B's in UK markings to make the display committment, on the basis that the fire that has grounded the whole F-35 fleet was in an A model not a B.
UK MAW criteria mean that the whole fleet has to be cleared before a UK B can resume flying again, so that maybe what this guy was picking up on, rather than any dispensation to be given for the UK a/c that was due to come over - which isn't going to happen.

However, it was deemed that this unilateral USMC decision was VERY unlikely....and to make RIAT, would have to have been already made for the jets to have left PAX yesterday.

Seems RIAT are trying to make up for the loss of the F-35 as without that and without the Vulcan - they know they are potentially stuffed laugh
Booking '558 at the last minute pretty much confirms to me IMHO, there will be no F-35B's turning up.

I've read lots of stuff from many sources this morning. One person reckoning that they have given up on RIAT, but " are moving heaven and earth" to get to Farnborough.

How?

To display at Farnborough it would have to be here this week to do it's validation display - so any 'show' at Farnborough would just be as per the B2 some years back, one pass down the runway and that's it - no actual display.
