I'm departing for RIAT shortly so will let everyone know how it's looking.
I'll arrive tomorrow morning.

One question for those who know: I'm arriving at East Midlands at 8, do you think I have to expect some kind of nightmare in Fairford's surroundings or might be quite trouble free?

I'm heading to Fairford tomorrow evening to camp, then going to the show in the daytime.

Confirmation of the inevitable...no F35.

I have tweeted RIAT, but no reply as yet. I will update if and when. Can anyone recommend a good campsite for sat night.

Cheers,

Tom

Right I have spoken to someone who works for Rolls Royce on the F-35 project and apparently (and this is a very slim chance) one F-35b may be heading over to fly on the Sunday. Apparently any pre prep needed for the event would be waived. Again this is a slim chance and will probs come to nothing but one can hope smile

Would be very surprised if it did come over. With them still grounded, needing a day or so between the flight and display, and the fact they would probably need to fly a validation display beforehand, I would find a Sunday appearance highly unlikely.

Have to agree with that sentiment...seems a bit idiotic to not invite XH558 given how big the airshow is and how finite our time with the Vulcan is as well.

With the loss of the F35B is there any real 'marquee' aircraft to look out for now?

If anything the hole left by the Vulcan non-attendance is even greater now, stranger still given they recently extended the flying display times.

I'm still looking forward to the fighter jet displays. The F-35 would have been really nice but I'm over it now wink. The F/A18 from the Swiss and the Spanish should be good. There's plenty of good stuff imho.

Only thing different in the flying, and worth seeing IMHO is the Polish SU-22 duo.

Avoid the main routes and you'll be fine.
